Best makeup counter for DYI eyes

I used to do stage makeup and am pretty good at fixing my own face. As makeup artists tend to disappoint me and make me feel like a clown, I am doing my own makeup for my wedding.

I was wondering which makeup counters have the most helpful associates for eyes. I would like to find shadows I'd like.

Re: Best makeup counter for DYI eyes

  • I just spent a ton of $$ at urban decay for my wedding makeup because no person i went to at a salon could do what I wanted. They have some cool products like waterproof concealor, makeup setting spray, pore tighteners, etc. Granted I'm in Chicago, but the girl was really helpful & showed me & wrote down step by step how to put the makeup on. I've found that clinique is generally helpful too. I have a lot of MAC makeup, but I don't care for the attitude of their associates. Maybe go to a makeup counter in a macys or something earlier in the day so they can spend more time with you. I find department store associates to be friendlier than people at sephora or ulta.

  • I feel like MAC has the most helpful associates. if you're going to spend 50 bucks (or more) anyway buying items, they will do your make up for you for free at just the cost of whatever you decide to buy. That way, if nothing else, you can get the step-by-step of what they do so you can replicate it (or if you love what they do, you could just make an appointment to have them do your make up on your day so you don't have to do it yourself)

MAC has been the ONLY place the make up artists were fantastic and helpful... even salon make up artists with eons of experience haven't compared to them in my experiences.
  • I enjoyed my makeup application at Sephora. For the most part she listened to what I was looking for (natural looking, not heavy, long lasting) and I think found great products that met my needs. The only thing I wasn't thrilled about was the lipstick she chose (I asked specifically for a lip color that wouldn't smudge or "kiss off" and immediately after applying it it was smudging).

I plan to check out an ulta next and see what they have to offer.

  • Thanks everyone! I am going to the MAC counter. They have always been nice to me. Should that fail, I'll try Sephora. I like that they have a variety of brands to choose from. Nordstrom has a makeup consultant that will not limit herself to one counter. I am considering that option too.

Mac make up or urban decay are famous brands but their formulation it's nothing different ... revlon and elf can do the same job or better the secret it's to use primer.

Play with some pigments and has a setting spray for brides amazing! called skindinavia bridal spay finishing. It's makes a huge difference... kind expensive but worth it because the make up last all day longer. Watch some youtube movies too!!!

Elf has a palled for perfect complexion with 4 colors for correction and some lose powders for photo finishing and I love them. I just got in the mail and I am so in love with it.

Revlon has a amazing pink color for brides called diamond lust pilow talk pink. You should give a look at this color! it's so sweet and amazing for pictures. Don't forget fake eyelashes because my make up artist in my wedding day applyed them and I didn't like because I never worn them but looked amazing for pictures! good lucky.
