Jewelry Choosing??

Re: Jewelry Choosing??

  • i've been in 5 weddings and got jewelry for each one from the bride. and i gave my bridesmaids their jewelry as part of their gift as well. i think it's a fine gift, because its something they can keep as a momento of the day. =)
  • See, I never wear jewelry, except for my e-ring and a necklace made out of coal from the Titanic (really!)  So jewelry would be kind of a crappy gift for me.  Sure I could wear it for another special event, but it usually gets lost long before then and I end up going to Target or Claire's and buying something new.I never even considered telling my bridesmaids what jewelry to wear.  I am buying them some cute necklaces I found on Etsy as part of their gift, but they're not for the wedding.  Just a little something extra.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • aerin, do tell the story behind the Titanic necklace!

  • It's not that great a story.  They sell them at the really fantastic Titanic exhibition at the Luxor in Las Vegas.  The coal is the only artifact that is available to the public; anything else you can get is just a reproduction of stuff from the ship.  I went through a phase where I was kind of fascinated with the Titanic and learned everything I could about it, so I think it's really cool that I now own a teeny tiny bit of the ship.

  • I highly recommend it, Brooke.  We were put off initially by the high ticket prices (like $35/person), but we hit up one of the half-price ticket booths on the Strip and checked it out.  After going through it we agreed that it was totally worth the full price.

  • I never thought it would be micro-managing to give the girls jewelry..actually, I think its a nice gesture..micro-managing would be on top of them to see of they got the dress, the shoes, the jewelry..etc..I guess eveyone is different
  • Good to know! It's my mom's first trip to Vegas so I'm trying to come up with ideas for fun-but-not-sleazy things to do. Thanks!

  • Just to clarify, I didn't mean to say that you can never get a BM jewelry. If you know her style and will be getting her something she likes, go for it! Or get all of them some kind of jewelry that's specific to each of them. Of course you're not obligated to get them gifts anyway. But I don't think you can honestly say "oh, a necklace that I picked out because I like how it will look with the rest of my wedding's style" is a really heartfelt gift to a friend. If your friend understands the overall level of formality of your wedding, I'd hope she'd keep the jewelry in line with that and not wear her studded dog collar to your black tie affair, so she'll look just fine.
  • Retread I'm not taking it like that at all, no worries :) I'm just making sure I'm not asking too much of my girls..I appreciate the advise and the talks of the other girls.. we're all different thats all..I know this is my wedding but I don't want my special day to be a burden on anyone..ya know??
