Wedding Woes

CL question

If you have sold something on CL, how have you made the exchange?  Did the buyer come to your house?  Did you meet somewhere?

I just sold my first item.  Woo hoo!  DH thought it would be fine to have them come to the house and he'll be here.  Now I'm living each day as if it's my last.

Re: CL question

  • When H buys stuff, he usually goes to the person's house. When he sells stuff he either has them come here or he'll meet them if they're up by where he works. But then, he's always armed, so there's that. When I sold stuff, it was to women, who preferred to meet in a public place. I wouldn't worry about it, especially if you're not going to be alone.
  • H usually has them come to wherever the item is...he even delivered some oak boards yesterday for $25 for delivery.

He loves CL.  I just let him do it all.

  • We've had CL people to our house.  I will only have them come if DH is home.

The only exception is when we sold our car.  I took care of the final negotiations myself and signing over the title.  But we sold it to Iranian immigrants that were hooked up with a local church and the guy who ran their refugee ministry was with them and we got to know him pretty well because he had us take it to the church mechanic (that was his ministry) to have it checked out.

I still slept with one eye open for a little while.  I don't trust people.

If it is feasible DH meets the person somewhere public, but I know he has sold stuff too heavy to move multiple times and just had the person come to the house.

<div>This. Half the reason we sell stuff is because we can't transport it to goodwill or whatever on our own. People come to our house with a truck.</div>

  • We've sold out of the house, I've met up in public for exchanges, and we once delivered a table to someone else's home.

Honestly, I think you can get a vibe about people from their emails or phone calls. I've never felt like I had to sleep with one eye open. Most of the people who've come to our house have been older women, actually, or couples (we sold a lot of furniture when we were redoing the upstairs).

  • I do feel safer now that I've googled her.  From emailing, we've figured out that we live less than 1/2 a mile from each other.
