In need of some name change info

Hi Ladies!

Well, as I've put it off for so long now, I have finally decided to go ahead and change my name.  I was told to change it here at work, all I needed was the marriage cert., well upon making sure at the district office, I found out they need the ss card & license.  I was going to do this after we get done with school this week, but will do it now....

My questions:

What do I need for the ss office?  Just the marriage cert?

Do I need to wait until that comes before going to the DMV? 

Do I actually need to go in or can the DMV change be made online?

I went into the DMV first with my marriage license and then went to the SS office with the marriage license and the paper saying my DL was being changed.  While you're at the DMV also make sure you change your registration (bring your title and a print out from the DMV website for the registration name change) because I forgot and just got my car registration with my old name on it and had to go back to the DMV to change it.

Once you get all this done you can change your name for everything else.

I'm sort of having a problem.  I have to show up in person to get my DL changed, but I can't go back to California.

The paperwork says to go to SS first and wait 24-48hrs before going to DMV because they know check SS records and it has to synch.  You have to go in.  You need your certified marriage cert and ID and a form that you can download online and pre-fill it in.  (it asks for your parents SS#'s)

Then for DMV you have to make an appointment to go in.  Totally sucks.  Been married 3 months and I'm just getting around to it all this week.
