hkiesling - I'll go with a typical question, but I'm seriously interested - were there any elements of your wedding that surprised as to how special/important/fun they ended up being? Something you didn't necessarily put much thought into but ended up being fantastic?

Bimbi - follow up from last week - how's the aisle runner going?

    Ask me anything!

Steph~ My wedding went pretty smoothly, but I guess the biggest surprise for me was that I actually had a fair bit of time to myself.  For some reason, I just sort of thought there would people around all day.  There was really no need for anyone to come with me to do my hair (except the photogs and stylist) and when I started getting my make-up done (2 hours before the ceremony), I had some time to myself again.  It wasn't bad, just surprising.  So I guess my advice is that if you want a boat load of people around ALL day to be giddy with, ask them to be there.

Otherwise, I was thanked several times by the wedding party, helpers, and vendors for providing them notes (timeline, map, directions, special instructions).  They all said that this made it much easier for them.

The aisle runner has not been touched since the summer. I have every intention of finishing it, but I just don't know if it'll happen. I will have more time once this semester is over before my wedding, so I'll hopefully finish it then.

Izzy~ Right before I met up with my dad to walk down the aisle, I took a minute to stand in the dressing room by myself.  I took a deep breath, ran over my vows, and take in the moment.  I'll never forget that moment.  Also, our BM and MOH did a fantastic job on our toasts.  When my MOH did hers, it was the only time I actually broke into tears the whole day!  I thought they'd do something a little more subdued, but they both went all out.  As it turned out, some of the best things were things I didn't even plan myself (imagine that).

Bimbi - Good question! I don't do so well putting it into words. The best way to describe the feeling I want is I want a romantic garden wedding. Soft, romantic, elegant yet laid back. Lace, organza, peonies, hydrangeas, etc. I have a few physical items that have been serving as a source of inspiration, namely a lavender colored paper with a pretty "filigree" pattern. FI and I have been without a digital camera since it fell into the salt water on vaca, otherwise I'd have some pics posted to my bio.

Izzy, that sounds beautiful! That was a great description...I can almost see it now.....

HK: My first CD was a twofer-IOW I bought them at the same time. TLC's Crazy Sexy Cool, and the Presidents of the United States of America (the one with "Lump" and "Peaches)....if that doesn't describe my wide musical tastes, nothing will.

hkiesling - Aww! I just teared up a little bit reading your post! I really like that idea of taking a moment. What a good idea :)

I first heard about TK years ago when I was helping a friend plan her wedding (I noticed I've been a member since 2004!). Didn't know about these message boards until just after I got engage in June 09. Seriously, what did brides do before TK?

Heather- FI and I both agreed we'd completely splurge on food and wine and chocolate (notice a theme?).  We both love to try new foods.  We (semi) joke sometimes about how we'd love to have a full day reception.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner for our guests!  yummm

Bimbi- what's your dress look like??

kkaew - How long have you and FI been engaged? I'm with you at the 6 month mark, and I finally feel like I'm really into the actual planning now, instead of just dreaming, which is fun. Do you have a lot left to do?

We've been engaged since the end of July. I feel like I did most of the planning at the beginning, now we just have lots of little things and have to put the 'dreaming' together! Need to make invites, buy things for the CPs, find a baker, FI and GM attire...I'm sure there's more!
  • edited December 2011
Steph- I have had worries about that since I've been engaged since last April, but I keep finding new things to get excited about. We already have a lot of our major vendors booked so I have most of the next year and a half to add little details to make it unique and us! Plus I just love being a bride! I always thought I'd want a short engagement because I'm a very impatient person, but now I can't imagine doing it any other way!

Thanks ladies!!! It was one of those dresses I saw online and was like....idk if that will work on me, but I loved it. So when I went to look at dresses for the first time (like 2 years ago, no joke), they had it and it was the first one I tried on. The other dresses just didn't compare at all!!
