Top 10 Annoying Wedding Trends

Buddy linked to this on his Facebook, I don't think it's been posted today:

http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/jackalope/2010/08/annoying_wedding_trends_a_top.php

While some of them sound overly cranky, I pretty much agree with just about the entire list.

  • Hit any bridal expo and you'll have skanky hoes waving their implants in your face

DED now I must attend a bridal expo.

  • Hahahaha Pinot loves hoes. <3

(I do agree with most of them too btw)

  • Really.. Top hats? People wear little tiny tophats?

  • I like the parts about the groom crotch shot, and being on the ass-end of the birdcage veil trend.

  • I know, Leah... I was all excited for number one and then it was THAT.

I've never seen a photobooth at a wedding.  Ever.
  • I have to agree with all of those, except 2.  I am wearing a strapless gown because I liked it and felt beautiful in it, not because it's a trend.  If you don't look good in one than don't wear it!  Second, I kind of like the jumping poses...ducks head in shame.

I die a little inside every time I see a bride and groom with the fake mustaches stick prop things. Who thought of this and why?
  • Aside from this list, I DO think brides, in general, are waaaaay over the top about what is considered "overdone" or "played out" or trends that are over.

Not doing a candy buffet because EVERYONE does them is stupid - most of your guests really won't have seen one before.

Or saying, "We like this song, but we're not using it because eeeeeveryone does."

Seriously, guests don't have wedding fatigue like planning brides do.

    Don't be hattin'.  ;)

Also -- I heart my birdcage veil.

  •  Can someone please explain to me the fake mustache in all the wedding pictures? I swear, some blogs feature 1 in 5 weddings with the fake mustaches.  It was somewhat funny the first time, but now? Overkill.

  • I hate jumping photos.  HATE.

I have never seen anyone wearing a tiny tophat veil.  And that's after visiting a bridal website daily for over a year.  I think they made that up.

  • Aw, I really dislike the jumping poses. Probably because when we were looking for a photog, every one had a group 'jumping-photo'. I thought it was lame. I sure as hell wasn't jumping in a wedding dress and heels.

  • That mini top hat might be the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
  • The fake mustache thing is some kind of hipster BS. You know, those people who pride themselves on being super ironic and stuff.

  • Okay, I have never seen the mini top hat before...ever. If I actually saw a bride wearing one, I'm not sure I would be able to stop myself from laughing.  Gross

  • I agree with most of those.  I like the birdcage veil but it's poorly executed most of the time by brides whose weddings/dresses don't match the style at all.

I HATE the jump and crouching pictures.  I made that extremely clear to my photographer.  Fortunately they hate them too.

  • I agree with most of them but probably not all.

For me, everything he said about the bird cage veil can also be applied to damask.

  • I kinda like photobooths with silly props, but I have been accused of being a hipster.  I don't wear tight jeans, though.
    image
  • Oh, and I noticed Ghost chairs (I think they're called that) popping up everywhere lately.  It looks look if you're doing it at a modern venue like an art muesuem, but other times, it just looks really random to me.
    image
  • I also wore strapless due to it making my bits look fab, but I agree with the rest. ESPECIALLY the jump shot. There's always one person who didn't jump on time and the already prom-looking shot looks even more stupid.

I think the butterfly release should have also included doves and goldfish CPs.

Dessert tables would be on my Annoying Wedding Trends list; hell, it's an annoying party trend, period. You don't need a DESSERT table at a ONE YEAR OLD'S BIRTHDAY PARTY!! Unless of course you're grooming them to be a competitive eating champion. (All the party blogs are creaming themselves over dessert tables and cupcake picks right now).

I think I just saw one in the most recent Martha Stuart Weddings issue...

I'm sure some people could maybe pull it off, but again, I feel like most should just skip it.

Dani I agree.  Even before I was deep into wedding planning I didn't get the obsession with damask...so overdone.

Yeah man, I feel like I've been saying that on these boards for 2 years.

I've never seen a candy buffet or photo booth IRL.  Also, my wedding was the first I've ever been to that had a cocktail hour.

  • I heard that mini-donuts are the new cupcakes.  Take note.

  • TJ, I agree with you on music. I used Canon in D, dammit, and I'd do it again.

It also annoys me when people hate on the unity candle/sand ceremony/etc. You don't like it? Okay, well say it's NMS and move on. You don't have to talk about how stupid it is all the time. Yes, I did a candle, but even if I hadn't, I wouldn't give two shiits if someone else did it.
  • Fuuck mini donuts. I'm having big donuts at my wedding!

If wearing a little jaunty chapeau is wrong, I don't want to be right.

  • Ok I am doing a strapless dress and bird cage veil, but I am also doing a 1950's/ rockabilly wedding, so the sweetheart neckline and birdcage both go with my theme so pffffttttt!
