Well then, I'll keep that in mind. I think it's mostly that everyone comes from different cultures and background and so everyones own personal values and beliefs and opinions get in the way of friendly advice and it appears like a personal attack when really there's just a lot of diversity floating around in here.

Don't be afraid to post. Lurk sure. But just if/when you post don't freak out if someone gives you advice you don't want/ disagrees with you. This is the internet...people tell you the honest truth/opinion. Just take it with a grain of salt. Freaking out is what makes threads go into gang up mode.

Just explain yourself and laugh things off

For example:

If the 85 thread OP just said, "Wow, yeah my first post makes it sound like her age is an issue...that was dumb/not what I meant. Sorry. And I see everyone's point about it making work difficult, but I can deal with that. But does anyone have a phrase I can use to politely let her know she isn't invited/change the topic?"
