In Response to Re: Good morning! : It's interesting to see them start to run that fine line of discount vs. department store. Obviously they're trying to build a niche for themselves because competing with Macy's sounds like a tough thing to do.
Posted by aragx6
it was my favorite department store...but I find it interesting that they are trying to make themselves look more upscale, and then do this.

Personally I prefer the less frills and cheaper prices.

I loath self checkout.  I must be extremely lazy in that regard.  I feel that the price I am paying for a purchase includes the saleperson ringing up my purchases and bagging them for me.  I am probably a minority here.

• Options
I don't mind self checkout (I usually use it at Home Depot) but there are usually more problems/longer lines because of the issues.

Thank you ladies!

I'm not doing anything particularly birthday-ish today except getting a drink with Aryn after yoga.  I'm sure I'll look super cute too.

Tomorrow H is taking me to my favorite extremely fancypants restaurant, so I'm really looking forward to that.

And I love self checkout.  I hate people, and I'm faster than most store clerks anyway, so I'd be fine with self checkout at JC Pennys
• Options
I love the self check outs at S&S especially since they have a gun. I bag and tag while I go and then scan in at the end and I'm done. It's sweet.
• Options
I use self-checkouts a lot but there are people out there, as we've already demonstrated here, that hate them for a variety of reasons. Heck, at our Kroger, there's a scan and bag that lets you scan things throughout the store, bag it yourself, and pay at a station similar to self-checkout.

Working at the self checkout station sucks too because you normally have to watch at least 4 registers at once and can only take care of one issue at a time. It's also harder to ensure people aren't stealing with self checkouts. Just a bad idea all around to have absolutely no regular checkouts.

This and why should I come into a store and buy something then.  The whole point of buying it in the store is seeing the item face to face and receiving customer service.

Also, I work in auditing and loss prevention in retail and this is pretty much a nightmare.  This and the portable points of sale that are just iPhones equipped to scan credit cards.

Definitey.

I have made this mistake before.  It was the month I turned 21 and everyone just kept insisting and taking me out.  It ended up a very rough end of my work day.  I was fine in the morning but by the end I looked like death.

Arag, dealing with drunk coworkers is one of the most frustrating yet amusing things on the planet.  My coworker got blasted on our last work trip (too many Sambuca shots and glasses of wine, apparently) and she called me after l had gone back to our hotel and told me she needed me to pick her up because she couldnt make it back herself.  I found her in the hotel parking lot.  She had no idea thats where she was and didnt recall asking me for a ride.

There was this girl at the restaurant that I used to work lunch shifts at that came in to work still drunk routinely. At least once or twice a week. She'd be hungover and even b!tchier than her normal self by the end of the shift. Once she came in so sh!tfaced the manager put her in a cab and sent her home. I have no idea why she was never fired.

My body processes alcohol rather oddly -- beer is fine, even wine, but if I have hard alcohol it stays in my system for an inordinate amount of time. I could have 8 beers and feel fine the next day but even I have even two jaegerbombs I'll be drunk many hours later. I don't really get it, but years have taught me that it's definitely true.

Yeah I've definitely dealt with drunk coworkers before. I worked at a bank on my college campus. We had people coming in drunk from the night before all the time for weekend shifts.

I've worked with people who drank on the job, dumb enough to keep it in the public fridge, and operated lift equipment. Needless to say, they were fired on the spot.

I have never been drunk at work or the day after.

I think I'm the same way. It also doesn't help that when I have liquor, I start to think how good a different kind of cocktail, then maybe a beer, then a shot would be. Mixing different stuff together always makes me sick. But put beers in front of me all day/night and I'm okay.

I love my beers but in the summer I drink them too quickly.  I look rather odd because I will ALWAYS have a glass of water with my beer in the summer.  If not I end up drunk because I drink the beer in one gulp.
