Officiant Poll

Re: Officiant Poll

  • My venue had a list of people they have worked with multiple times in the past, and would suggest to their current brides.  I emailed him, we spoke on the phone - then set up a mtg time.  We hired him at the mtg.
  • We go to church regularly and chose our top 3 fav pastors and the one that wasnt out of the country at the time did ours. He also did all of our premarrital counseling.
  • Two really good friends of mine are ordained, therefore doing my ceremony. :)
  • we used the priest at our church taht we attend regularly.
  • Since you were in some doubt about using someone you don't know, I just thought I would share more about our experience. Oddly enough, in Colorado, anyone can marry you- yes anyone.  You don't have to be ordained or anything.  Basically when you sign the marriage certificate you are married no matter who gets up there and says the words. Now, I know that this is definitely NOT the case everywhere or in NY.  But because of this, I originally -wanted someone we know to marry us- a relative, a friend, etc.  Basically we had one person in mind and it fell through and we couldn't decide on who knew us both equally well (we grew up in different states).  This was important to me. I wanted this person to know him just as well as they knew me. Another thought- We are also getting married in a venue that is not traditionally used for weddings and there is no coordinator or anything like that.  I kind of decided I wanted someone that knew what they were doing and had run/written ceremonies before.  I found our officiant Craig's List and was somewhat weary at first, but we met her at a coffee shop and she totally gets us!  She helped us even write our very own ceremony that reflected our beliefs and will guide us through the entire process.  It ended up being one of the best decisions we have made so far.  Iknow that is one area of the wedding I do not have to worry about.  Maybe do a google search for JOP or wedding officiants in the area (seriously- here there are hundreds!) or check Craig's List, but just be sure to meet them and make sure they are legit.  GL!
