it was just a stock photo but no, the ring doesnt match.

and everyone responding that white gold is not naturally white- I know that. What I was asking is it is standard practice to have to request rhodium plating on white gold rings to make them appear white.

But... like we said, "white gold" doesn't really exist. It's just "less yellow" gold. And you CAN buy non-plated white gold, it's just not as white, so people usually want it to be plated.
And PPs, stop staying that white gold yellows over time. That's completely false. The rhodium plating may wear off leaving you looking at the actual white gold metal under the plating. The metal doesn't change color at all. The issue is that the plating will not be permanent. IMO if you have the money up front, I'd go with platinum or palladium if you want the look of rhodium plated white gold. After all, if all you want to do is look at something plated in rhodium, why spring for white gold? Just spend the money on the metal you'll actually see.
    Posted by banana468
I actually like the look of my white gold engagement ring when the rhodium plating has worn off, which is unusual, maybe. If it weren't for the fact that my wedding band came rhodium plated, I probably wouldn't have re-plated my engagement ring anyway. Next year when the plating of both rings is equally worn off, I don't think I'll be re-plating.

Did the ebay listing say that the ring would not be as pictured?

I would suggest that yes, you are wrong. But that isn't what you want to hear. So I'm not sure what to say. Damn the Canadians and their superfluous U's, improper metric measurments (huh?) and yellow white gold.

It's great that you like the look. My point is that some people think white gold = the rhdodium plating. And if you want the rhodium look, spring for palladium or platinum.

Since the post isn't about whether she or her FI are in the wrong, I wouldn't make any assumptions about the FI and his involvement with the engagement ring or this situation.

So he basically proposed with a solitaire on a plain band with the expectation that you'd pick out a setting you wanted? If that's the case, it makes sense.
