Re: FFF

  • Shan, I think so, too.

She said "You don't realize it, but when you called me a goof, you also called me a cvnt."

That to me is an example of someone who is seeking ways to get butthurt.
I know we develop feelings about words and their origins from personal experience, but things like that are a bit much.

She said this to a seventh grader?
  • Waaaay late to the conversation, but, whenever I say "lame" meaning not cool, I pronounce it lam-ay (like the gold glittery fabric).  I don't know why.  We've replaced retard(ed) with fucktard(ed).  Much more descriptive.  Especially when talking about drivers.
  • The only definition I could find for "goof" that involved prison was in the Urban Dictionary.  Did this speaker also talk about the Dirty Sanchez with the 7th graders?
  • Karlee that's ridic.  If I want to call someone a cuunt, I come right out and call them a cuunt.  Goof =/= cuunt.

  • Some of them went viral a few weeks ago, so a different pic Beefy was all over.  That's why I put one up :)

  • Yeah I remember when those photos went viral, they are so cool.  Some of them are pretty hysterical, lol.

  • BTW, the funny thing about the original "Goodbye Cruel World" song was that it sounded very carnival-y and upbeat, then had such a downer of a message.

  • Whoops, P&R. Yeah, she did.
And nobody called her out on it at all. It was a "legal studies" class. It was one of those courses you could take alongside home ec. and whatnot.
She was brought in to discuss her experiences in jail. So, it wasn't completely irrelevant to the subject or anything,
But this kid was talking to another classmate, not her. She just went off of the deep end.

Late to the party, but, I think it's ridiculous to choose ONE definition of a word (such as "lame") and say that's the ONLY way that word can be used. Just because ONE definition of it is describing a disabled person, doesn't mean we can just ignore definitions 3, 4, 5, etc. Many words have multiple definitions depending on the situation. Pulling one out and saying "Using it any other way is derogatory" is ridiculous.

And I think it's kind of silly to say we should go by the OED or original version. If that's true, then the f word you all say we shouldn't use (and I completely agree with you--just proving a point) would be A-OK because the "f word" was originally a bundle of sticks or twigs. Obviously, words can evolve over time. Whereas the "f" word is now seen as derogatory and has all but lost its original, innocent meaning, the term "lame" has evolved into a socially acceptable way of saying something is lacking. I don't see the big deal. I totally think this is different than saying someone is "retarded" meaning stupid. Retarded has never had that definition. Just my 0.02. Have a good weekend!
