I love my wine.

Re: I love my wine.

  • Ugh, Missy I'm so sorry to hear that.  That's awful.  Do you have much damage, or don't know yet?
  • Well the hot water tank in the apt above us busted. And it all leaked down into our apt. The wall is bowed in and about ready to collapse. The carpet is soaked despite the fans they have on it. H says it smells like mold already. It is totally uninhabitable. The apt office was giving us the run around on whether or not they would pay for a hotel.

I was so pissed and upset. I called H home and then he went back to work b/c they have a huge project going on right now. I went to the insurance office and went ahead and made a claim on the renters policy. I really didn't want to do that since I am not sure we have actually lost anything, but my Dad said it was the best thing to do. I waited the rest of the afternoon on the adjuster guy, but he never came. So I will get up in the morning and go over there tomorrow.

In the next day or so, we have to get all the big things out of the area affected (everything besides the master bedroom and bath) and put into storage. We just better get our deductible back from the apt property mgt or we will get an attorney.

I was able to accept my job offer today, but didn't get any other packing or anything else done.

  • Missy- that sounds really rough.  It definitely sounds like you dealt with it as well as you could.

And congrats on accepting the job!
  • We had a pipe burst in our kitchen 4 years ago. It flooded our kitchen with 6 inches of water and luckily only did damage to the kitchen in both our unit and the unit downstairs. We didn't have to pay rent for 2 months because we couldn't use our kitchen.

Because of it we didn't have a living room or a spare bedroom because we had to move everything. My dad came over and looked at the pipe and couldn't believe the way that it was hooked up and could understand why it burst. The bonus was they had just flushed the water main the week before and burst the lead pipe into the complex. So when that was fixed our water pressure came back 10 fold.

It really sucks but it's not your fault and they should have to pay for you to live in a hotel until the apartment is habitable again.

  • Wow Missy - how frustrating.

Congratulations on the job though! At least one bright spot to the day

  • I totally agree Ciara. And man, I feel sorry for you. You sound so miserable.

We are trying to use it to get out of our lease early. Hopefully we will know tomorrow. But we are not staying there until the carpet is replaced. I honestly think they don't want to replace the carpet b/c they told us we didn't need to move our stuff out? How do you replace carpet with furniture, books, stereo equipment, computers, etc in your way?

Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • MissySue, that is awful about your apartment - sorry you had to deal with all of that.

  • Well, I think everyone has logged off for the night.

I think I am headed to bed so hopefully we can get this issue resolved tomorrow am pronto.
  • Hi again!
    Missy- ooh, that sucks.  :(
Kjb - love the new sig pic!
Andy - I hired packers for the last few moves, and I will never go back to doing all the packing by myself.  Some of them are pretty cheap on CL, might be worth $20/h.
  • keep us updated Missy!
  • I don't mind the packing part of moving I hate the moving part. But then again I have only moved once. I've already told DH that when we move we are just going to use our friends and by them beer and pizza after everything is moved. Most of them are already cool with this plan.

  • i hate the unpacking.  I can't relax until it's all done.  Fi gets so mad at me because I would rather stay up all night and finish unpacking the leave crap everyone and deal with it in the morning.
