Help me waste my evening away

Re: Help me waste my evening away

  • It was a beautiful morning. Really hazy from all the smoke from all the fires going on out here right now.
  • Loops, I'm reading Prep by Curtis Sittenfield. It's about a girl's journey through prep school, from an outsider scholarship freshman to fitting in as a senior, and then she fuuucks it all up, apparently. It's pretty cliche, but I like it.
I was so laid back when it came to my reception. Several family members showed up the day of to help set up. I took out all the decorations I had and was basically like "So yeah, we can just do whatever works with these". One of my favorite non-pro pictures is of what I call my fluffly garland assembly line. I thought it would be so much easier to do, but they each had several puffs on them that needed to be individually fluffed. I told everyone not to worry about it because it was too much trouble but a bunch of the guys sat at one of the tables and fluffed all my strands of garland. It was pretty amusing.

  • I was super laid back the day of my wedding...It's not that I have a control issue, it is more I hate making work for other people...which I guess could end up looking controlling.

My parents aren't involved at all. Mom's family is all from out of town, so I don't expect them to help. I do have one aunt on mom's side that lives in the same town DH and I do, we're really close now, so she might. We scheduled our wedding in May because she's an accountant and April wouldn't work for her. DH's family is from out of town and his mom is hosting them and they're staying with her, and she's told me she's not working.

So, I expect it will be DH, MOH, a few good friends, and I decorating. I have hired a coordinator for the day of and she's dealing with cleanup for an addiltional charge.

I wish my family were more supportive, that's been one of the main reasons we haven't had a wedding. He and I have been together a long time and we're common law, so why not just accept it?

  • My mom got this stuff once:

But I don't know if they're for sensitive skin or just earth friendly.
  • H and I went for our weekly hike this morning with the dog, then ran some errands, and then I had a long phone coversation with my mom about my step-father's being diagnosed with Parkinsons. Sometimes I really dislike living in a different state than my family.
  • I tried really, really hard to be laid back about my wedding, and I accomplished it for some things, but being laid back is not natural to me.

I did avoid any major bridezilla freakouts, though I almost had a meltdown due to the florist issues. Luckily I got it together haha.

  • J - I read that. I liked it.
  • Hockey that makes more sense if you're big music people. But it still just seems so controlling to me, over something that doesn't need to be. But everyone is different with their weddings, and obviously people care more about some stuff than others.

It's got 3 stars on GR, but the last 15 or so people to review all say how much they hate it. Apparently most people started to hate it around the middle, and I'm about a third through, so we'll see. So far so good, though!

I hope so, and a lot can change in the next 9 months.

I am a total control freak who knows exactly what I want and expect things to be perfect. I struggle with it often and try to keep it in check.
Honestly, I think most people have things that they don't give much of a fig about and things that they do. Personally, IDGAF about flowers, so the florist is working with the smallish budget I gave him and I trust him to do what he said he would. As long as they're not dead, I'm cool. Some people are hardcore about the flowers. My point is, Hockey and Mr. Hockey love music so that's the way they did their playlist. NMS, but theirs. Let's all hold hands and sing Kumbaya.
    Posted by EaglesBride2012
I think we mostly moved on, but FTR what I don't like is the not allowing requests. I didn't see much of anything I liked on her playlist, so I would have been bored and not danced much (which is weird, because I'm a fuuuucking dancing queen), and probably left early.

I don't care about providing a huge list, but the not allowing requests is what's controlling to me.

I won't sing Kumbaya, but I will hold your hand.

  • I kind of threw a fit the day of, and I think I had every right to. SO many people kept coming up to the venue and asking to take a look around while we were setting up. Like, there was a sign on teh door saying the building was closed for a private event, the doors were locked, but they still knocked on the door and walked around outside.

"Oh, we were thinking about having our wedding here. Can we just take a quick look around?"

No. You can not. Make a freaking appointment like everyone else and GTF out of our way! *stomps foot*

  • I sometimes wish I had been more controlling about a few things with our wedding. My bridesmaids didn't do a great job with my dress (cathedral length) and I have a hard time picking ceremony pictures because I don't like any that are zoomed out where you can see my train, it sort of looks like a crumpled mess at their feet.

When I went to my cousin's wedding, my step-brother went up to the DJ and asked for a song, the DJ replied "are you signing my check?" Jaw dropped.

I think if you know your list well enough to do that then, that's great. I'm glad you were able to have stuff that everyone enjoyed. I still think it's weird you didn't allow requests, but it's not like I'm sitting here judging you and thinking you're an a-hole. I just think it's weird. You will not change that.

    So, truce and move along?
