[QUOTE]Good evening! Back from dinner and being tech support for my mom for an hour on the phone. There is nothing good on tv so I am watching this seasons Sister Wives. So captivating, but odd.

<div>I've been thinking about watching the first season if I can find it, but I just don't know...</div>
  • WW - your FSIL sounds very considerate.  We didn't do parent dances.  My dad is handicapped (balance issues) and would not have been able to do it.  He said my uncle would stand in, but H didn't want to dance with his mom, so we used "not making my dad feel bad" as the excuse not to do a spotlight dance.  We just told the DJ to play What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong) and they danced to it with everyone else.

[QUOTE]Wally - my parents danced for a while during our first dance, then we switched partners. <strong>My dad made everyone laugh by grabbing H instead of me at first,</strong> but I do have some lovely pictures of H dancing with my mother.  Also, during the father/daughter dance H and MIL joined my father and I on the dance floor, then towards the end a few other fathers/daughters joined us.

<div>That is funny! Not thinking my DD"s bio mom would see the humor in it if I did that to her, though. LOL. </div><div>
</div><div>DD and FI are having 'Real Love' by the Beatles for their first dance.</div>

  • Or first dance was to Micheal Franti's "Say Hey". It was a toss up between that and Bob Schneider "The world Exploded in Love." Franti won because we really didn't want to slow dance; and it was great because it set the dance floor vibe for the rest of the night!

Hi all, I just got home from a party. I's so good to hang out with life long friends. I'm absolutely exhausted.

I danced with my dad to Walk with you by Edwin Mccain. H and I's first dance was Then by brad paisley. I cried the whole time thru both dances, like a fool.

  • The only thing I don't get, is why thy moved out of their community? If they wanted to stay secretive, then stay off TV! But it's otherwise really good at allowing the viewer into their lives and lifestyle. Although, it's probably not 100 accurate to other polygamist who have not been on tv.

  • Good evening.  Like Hockey, we have an entire play list.  We didn't hire a DJ, though.  A good friend just rented some equipment and we put together all of the music he needs to download. He did this for his sisters wedding and it went really well.  We got everything (equipment and music for around 225).  I am putting putting the final touches on the list this week.

My FI and I are dancing to "Could Not Ask For More" by Sara Evans and I'm dancing to "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw with my Dad.

  • Goodnight Hockey!

Forgive me if this question makes me seem ignorant, but how can the state prosecute them? I mean, is it illegal to live and have children with multiple women? From what I understand, the first marriage is a "legal" marriage and all others are only "spiritual" - so from my limited knowledge, that's not breaking the law is it?

<div>Especially because (from what I can tell) none of them have jobs.  I would just think that $80,000 (20% down on 4 houses priced at 100k) would be enough to start on new construction, right?</div>

<div>I asked the same thing last season. I don't remember exactly how it all works, but there was some way they could do it. But, it's not something they really ever enforce UNLESS there are child brides or some sort of abuse like that occurring. </div><div>
</div><div>Pretty sure the only reason anyone bothered to even go thru the motions of ANYTHING legal against them was because it was so 'in your face' because of the show. Usually, they just turn a blind eye. </div>

  • I would think that Child Brides would fall under pedophilia rather than polygamy. Or maybe it's both?
  • The kids were at the old house. Do they still own it? I'm still really confused, but fascinated. I do give them credit for putting their lives out there. Unlike the dumb Gosslin family, I feel that was done fully for the money. Also, I want to see a tv show about the really extreme polygamists that live in the gated community in Texas. Holy culture shock, I must know more.

<div>I suppose it depends on what sort/size house you are going to build. Having just built myself, though, I do know that construction loans have different criteria, interest rates, terms, </div><div>
</div><div>It is weird because they really do seem like super nice people. I mean, I'm not into sharing my husband but I'm kind of like, hey, whatever works. I'd rather have them living that lifestyle and taking good care of each other than the way some 'normal' families live!</div>

I think they do. And it looked like tons of their stuff is still in it because they basically fled quickly instead of taking time to really move. <div>

  • They can be prosecuted because they claim to be married to the other women. Some families don't, some families do. I have some friends with multiple spouses and it's a different lifestyle. I like my one husband and he's happy with his one wife.

Just tucked the pony into bed with some hay and water since he doesn't want to stay out all alone anymore. Hope he's happy with this situation!

    Night Hockey!

  • I've known a couple of families with multiples wives and one family with two husbands. My family was really open minded growing up and we were somewhat on the fringes with our religous beliefs, anyhow. It is an incredible lifestyle, but I'm way too jealous to make it work. Some of the families I knew were the very Patriarchal Old Testament Fundamentalist that were law keepers - there's nothing wrong with that lifestyle, but those families are different than the families I knew where it was a lifestyle choice that were more into the BDSM type lifestyles with the multiples.

I think three coins site is still up and running if you want info on poly as a lifestyle from several viewpoints, they had a good site 10 years ago. I can't remember the exact address, though.
