In Response to Re: Confessions : Ciara I didn't even realize he had a cleft lip/palate.  If you don't mind my asking, how severe is it? I'm so glad that you have found a place of support and understanding for this. I can imagine that it can feel very isolating and scary to be dealing with something like that. What is his prognosis? (If this is me being too nosey feel free to tell me to kindly stfu!) My confession: I haven't done anything at work all week. Half the office is working crazy hours getting ready for E3 and the other half, including me, are sort of just floating along and testing or fixing small bugs but not busy at all. It's a very weird atmosphere because I almost feel guilty that some people are working overtime and weekends right now and I'm fucking around without a lot to do.

He has a unilateral cleft on the left side. Both my DH and I were prepared for the worst and were relieved when it was only a unilateral cleft instead of a bilateral like they thought. We really don't know the prognosis yet. We meet with the plastic surgeons tomorrow to discuss things. We do know that he has to be at least 10lbs before they will do the first surgery. So we assume that the first surgery, to repair his lip, will be right around 3 months of age and then the second, to repair the palate, will be after 6 months.

    Happy Birthday Bubb!

LDY: That makes much more sense! I thought we were about the same age. I graduated HS in 2003 as well.
  • Happy Birthday Bubb!!

Musical-that whole insecure about my body thing is what kills me. That and I want to go by myself, but I don't want to go by myself, and I have no one here to go with me lol. But I will call for the consultation appt. RIGHT NOW.

I guess this would be an appropriate time to again say that Nuggs' younger brother graduated in '03 from my high school and he was like, THE HOT senior. When I told Nuggs this, she was not surprised at all that I thought this, hehe.

ETA: and I was a freshman at the time---oogling the senior boys.

I understand the insecure thing, but if your photog is worth her/his salt, they will be sure to make you feel super comfortable throughout the whole thing. The place I went to did not allow people to watch the shoot, but I didn't mind because I think that actually would have made me feel more awkward.

What is the difference between a unilateral and a bilateral cleft?

I have to say that the things doctors can fix nowadays are astounding. It sounds like you and your doctors are in tune with each other  and I've got fingers crossed for him!

ETA: I'm so glad LL got banninated! She bugged the living crap out of me. What was the final straw?
And thanks for the birthday wishes! I get to play soccer at lunch so I'm stoked and I'm taking tomorrow off of work. H and I always surprise each other with something for birthdays and he said he has a whole day and night planned. I can't wait!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was kinda nervous at first but that went away once the hair/makeup lady & the photographer started just chatting with me like we were old friends. It was awesome. I'd show you a pic of mine but they are all bound in a book so nothing to show online lol.

  • Happy birthday, bubb!

In relation to the budoir pics, I'm worried about our TTD/couples shoot at the end of the month. I don't know how to take pictures. My "trying to be sexy/sultry/anything other than full-on grin" faces are just me looking totally blank or confused or pissy. I have a feeling I'll come off looking stupid while H will be next to me looking awesome.
  • Ok. I called. I have a consultation scheduled for tomorrow at 11am. It's about an hr drive from me. So that still leaves me time to skype with FI tomorrow morning too. yay!

  • I was in 8th grade in 1999. I graduated from HS in 2004 and DH graduated in 1992.

Unliateral effects only one side of the lip and nose and a bilateral effects both sides of the lip and nose.

    Unilateral

    Bilateral

  • Dumb, LDY? That is sad :( J totally loves them. He pages through book at random times just to get all smiley. heh.

Sesh-- FWIW, after I stalked your FB, I think you are drop dead gorgeous so I bet any faces you make will be just fine. :)

  • I don't have the cojones to take boudoir pics.  I would spend the whole time feeling fat and flabby and self-confident.

I admire you ladies who get them done, for having that body confidence.  That is so much healthier than my stupid agonizing.

  • LDY-I'm not telling FI and chances are when I gave them to him I will probably leave the area because of my self-consciousness lol. I just told him I'm getting him the best present ever! lol.

  • I see, Ciara, that makes total sense. Thanks for letting me ask questions, I know it is not always appreciated. :)

  • Bay, I've been considering doing them and I definitely don't have the best body confidence.  I know H would LOVE them if I did it, though.  He's always trying to take dirty pictures of me (TMI?).  FSIL had some pics done, but it was just with a friend that likes photography.  After getting burned with my wedding pics, I don't think I'll ever be able to use someone that's not a "pro" again.

That would be me.  If I did b-pics, I would not be able to stay in the room while he looked at them.
In Response to Re: Confessions : Yes, in 1988. The 90s seem like weird birth years to me too. GGirl-- That is really weird that they don't have a law for it. My dad used to have a motorcycle in his early 20s and got in a crash in which if he hadn't been wearing a helmet, he would have been dead instantly. I know plenty of other people who have had relatives with serious injuries from not wearing helmets. I guess its just a touchy subject for me, so when I see it, I get really bent out of shape.
    Posted by musicalsunlight
My dad really wanted a motorcycle when he was in high school. And my grandparents were not keen on it. Anyway, my dad's cousin's husband had one and he thought it was awesome. Well, Chris ended up in a major accident and broke both legs. My grandma said my dad never mentioned anything about wanting a motorcycle after that.

  • Anna-thats my concern too, but I guess I have to get over some fears? I figured since I moved, changed jobs, getting married; I might as well try something else new as well.
