S/O Names: A Poll

Re: S/O Names: A Poll

  • oot, I actually worked with someone who has your same name.  I always thought it was pretty, but she was such a biitch.
  • Heh, t, don't feel bad! It's my mom's fault, really. Stupid incorrect spelling (ironically she's an English major).

    And gretchen, I agree, I don't think I'm a Sarah at all :).

  • Lp- I always call you lainey in my head I just didn't think it was correct. It fits you better than Sarah :)

Gretch- But I'm the only one who uses the nickname "Nda" right?

Teresa- That made me laugh. Also, I wish you were around more because I like you (non creepy)

  • TJ, that is really exciting.  I always got hosed as a kid because I could never get those cool bike license plates or keychains with my name on it.  I've always wanted something with my name in it, which might explain why I want everything in my life monogrammed.

Oh yeah, my middle name is Jo after my Aunt Jo whose real name is Nancy and I have no idea why they call her Jo (see you're not the only one lp)

Edit: Oh, and my dad, Henry Albert Lastname is called "butch" Butch! Whenever mom and I ask him where that came from he's like oh, you know, they just always called me that (like that explains it)
  • I LOVE the name Xavier! It was one of my favorite boy names for a long time. Still is  I suppose. What would you call him for short anyway? X? Xav? I guess I knew a Xavie (pronounced HAH-vie) but he pronounced it Javier anyway...

Teresa, that is too funny! I 'ranted' to J about how there are no St. Rhonda's and perhaps I should be the first! =)

  • Brie - it's such a cute song, and I own the only existing copy of it anywhere. And I think I lost it. Whoops.

I used to have NO trouble finding my name on things because, you know, "Kelly." It's easy. Now sometimes (yeah I totally still look!) I have to dig through Kelley, Kellie, Kellee... and don't find it.

WRT names in general... my sister's name is Kate. In Kindergarten, she came home crying because the teacher told her that couldn't possibly be her name, and she had better come back knowing her full name the next day. Heh.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same.

Aww, thanks Roxy -- that's sweet (and totally non-creepy).  I'll try and post more; besides, I'm tired of having the NEWB medal under my name.

And p.s. my screenname (a million years ago) was RoxyGrl413, so whenever you post, I laugh a little.  Also in a non-creepy way.
  • Rho, he's already got the nick name Xray, but that's more of a little joke (at least I hope). We won't call him anything for short, it'll just be Xavier. That's the part that blows my family away. Apparently they are incapable of saying names that are more than two syllables.

  • 1. I love my name. It's not super common, but still a totally normal name that everyone knows. It's Holly in case that's not totally obvious.

    2. I have met a good number of people with my name, but I was the only one in my school growing up.

    3. Nope, my parents just liked it.  It has no meaning whatsoever. And no, I was not a Christmas baby.

  • Rho, you should absolutely try and be the first St. Rhonda.  All you need to do are perform a few miracles and you're good to go!  Easy as pie.

And if you could do the whole water -- /> wine thing, that'd be amazing.
  • Teresa-that's really funny. My license plate used to be rxygrl. People around town would recognize me and be like "are you roxy girl?!" Made my 17 year old self feel like a mini celeb haha.
  • Roxy, that's awesome... ohhh to be 17 again.

(Not really, but I like to idealize.)
  • Somedays I wish I was 17 again. I had it good
  • check your pm.
  • It bugs me to no end at work when I ask a parent what the kid's name is and they say something like "Jackson, but we're calling him Jack"--well just name him Jack! A friend in college had a neice whom the named Katherine Elizabeth just so they could call her Katie Beth (they were pretty country). I guess I get it, but just cut to the chase! I had kid the other day named Charles Henry and they wanted to call Henry. Well...why didn't you name him Henry? It's just weird.

Oh I can turn water into wine. I pour the water out, add the wine...voila! I'm also really good at turning wine into water if you give me half an hour...

  • Exactly Rho ... although, our girls name was going to be Mary Evelyn, and we were going to call her Evelyn (my grandmother's name was Mary, she passed a month before we got the BFP, and Evelyn Mary didn't sound right). I blame my justification of this on years of brainwashing by my family ;).

I also have a cousin who is naming his son Jackson, but they are spelling it Jaxsen, so they can call him Jax. I think it would be much more efficient to just get the kid a t-shirt that says "My parents are dumbasses".
    image
    image
  • My 13 year old thinks that Jax is a cool name.  He likes that and Sonic.  Go figure.

Rho, best response ever.  I love it.

And Roxy, sometimes 17 doesn't sound so bad... less responsibility.  And on a shallow note, my skin was better then, that's for sure.
  • 1. Do you like your name? (you can share or not share what it is if you want) Terri - yes I like it, not in conjunction with my maiden name, but with my soon to be married name will be great.

    2. Have you met a lot of people in life with your name? Maybe two people, and they were both men. One actually used to work with my dad and he would yell all the time about "Terry this and Terry that" I had really low self-esteem.

    3. Are you named after anyone? (family, celebs, etc.)St. Theresa. My parents didn't want to use a family name, but decided they would always call me Terri not Theresa. So yes, my full legal name is Terri, regardless of the random family  members who seem to think I am Theresa when I do things that do not suit their delicate needs.

  • I saw a previous post about being called something that has no relation to your name --- I have an Aunt Ether. Her real name is Margaret, her hubby called her Peg, and I only knew her as Ether for about 18 years of my life.  Go figure.

Yea, 17...no bills, fast metabolism, Bff's that lived nearby, no job, no stress.
  • 1. Do you like your name? I didn't like it as a kid because it was different, but I've liked it a lot since high school.  It's Gillian.  Of course, people still insist on calling me Gillian with a hard G (like Gilligan--actually have been called Gilligan many times).  Folks, the name isn't that complicated.

    2. Have you met a lot of people in life with your name? A few.  Most people now spell it the new-fangled way with a "J," rather than the correct way :).

    3. Are you named after anyone? Parents just liked it.

A good friend of mine growing up was Laney AND her sister is Brie :).  Had a friend named Elin in college, but pronounced it Ellen, so I didn't actually know the name was really pronounced Eee-lin.
