[QUOTE]1. Do you like your name? I didn't like it as a kid because it was different, but I've liked it a lot since high school.  It's Gillian.  Of course, people still insist on calling me Gillian with a hard G (like Gilligan--actually have been called Gilligan many times).  Folks, the name isn't that complicated. 2. Have you met a lot of people in life with your name? A few.  Most people now spell it the new-fangled way with a "J," rather than the correct way :). 3. Are you named after anyone? Parents just liked it.  A good friend of mine growing up was Laney AND her sister is Brie :).  Had a friend named Elin in college, but pronounced it Ellen, so I didn't actually know the name was really pronounced Eee-lin.

Gillian is my most favorite name ever!

ExH vetoed it so I made my BFF name her daughter Gillian.
  • 1.  My name is Jennifer.  It was #1 most popular the year I was born according to the facebook app.  I used to hate how common it was but I am ok with it now.

    2.  I have been surrounded by Jennifers my whole life. $ out of 10 girls in my class throughout grade school were Jennifer.

    3.  I was named after Ali McGraws character in Love Story.  And while I was a fetus they called me Bozo, like in the movie.

P.S. I almost named my daughter Chloe in 1987 and I am super bummed that it is so popular now, especially as a dog name.

    1. Do you like your name?

    Yes. Rachel.

    2. Have you met a lot of people in life with your name?

Not really. When I was young I never met ANYONE else with my name (I did know a Rachelle and a Rochelle though). I have met a few more over the last few years though, and DH's grandmother and one of his nieces also have my name now, and his sister has it as a middle name.

     3. Are you named after anyone?

No. My mum just wanted all of her kids to have "strong" names that could not be really shortened into nicknames, and that would not seem silly when we were older (i.e. too cutesy). Rachel appealed to her as it was what she considered a "strong" biblical name (though we aren't religious, she is a former Catholic) that did not lend itself to a natural nickname (not that people did not try!).
  • Fish - Christy is totally the best spelling.

    1. My first name is Meredith. And a kid I wanted something more feminine, but now I like it.

    2. Yes, a girl in my program in college who was 2 years ahead of me was named Meredith, and the only other Meredith in my high school while I was there was in my grade. I meet them here and there.

    3. No, though my mom's stepbrother asked if I was named after Meredith Baxter Birney, since Family Ties was on the air at that time. My middle name is the same as my great-great grandmother, though.
