  • Mine is appraised at about $11,000 and its an heirloom diamond in a custom setting about 2 carats total.

I agree with this.  I don't mind sharing pics or even maybe specs, but to share prices isn't something I'm comfortable with.  I'm not condemning anyone else, I just am not a fan.  I also don't want people to know my salary or how much I paid for my condo, though I'll tell you how many bedrooms it has.
  • The other thing to keep in mind is that this is the internet.  You can't know for sure that people are telling the truth.  I wouldn't list what we paid for my ring, or what it appraised for.  You can look at the picture of it though.

  • I'm not going to say how much J paid for my ring (even though I do know the answer), but I will say that he changed the center stone from 3/4carat to 5/8 carat (a barely noticeable difference in my eyes) and it knocked about $1000 off the price.  I haven't gotten in appraised, as J got insured through the jewelry store.  I am quite curious as to what it would appraise for, though.  Perhaps I shall take it somewhere and find out.

  • DH spent what we were comfortable with. I was at the store, I picked it out, it was even on clearance. Its the perfect size, large enough to enjoy staring at it almost two years after getting it, but not fake looking. Most rings with 1.5 center stone or bigger just look fake, IMO.

</div><div>Same here. FI would probably never tell me. I honestly don't care. I know that it was pretty expensive but honestly it's not the price that matters or the fact that i'm wearing this beautiful diamond on my finger. It's honestly just about knowing that i'm getting married!</div>

  • I find it interesting the way people's perception on rings size/cost change over time. When I got engaged at 22, I knew people were thinking my 1 carat princess cut in platinum (around 7-8k) was small and not 'good enough' for them when their time came.

Now that most of my friends are getting engaged at 25, they are all, "holy crap, who has 7k to spend on a RING? I can't believe you don't put that towards a home." All that is fine, but it is interesting how defensive I have noticed people getting at what they chose to spend their money on and how is evolves with real life awareness.

We went through a jeweler that is a close friend of Noodle's best man, so he got a spectacular deal on my e-ring and he had it custom made since I have such fat sausage fingers and wanted a particular band width.  We also used them to do some work on my wedding ring, which is a heirloom.  I know that my e-ring was appraised at a little over twice what Noodle spent.

I am really surprised that so many people know how much their ring cost!!  My FI didn't tell me, and I don't want to know.  All I know is that I LOVE my ring and what it signifies, and I couldn't have picked it better myself.

  • I know how much he spent and I know how I told him it was too much and that I didn't need a ring that expensive, but I also know it will be completely paid off at the end of the month and that he could afford it.

I really hate when people ask me questions about my ring in person. Well some people, my friends I don't care but random people? Pisses me off.

is it that people WANT to know what their ring cost, or that a lot of people know simply out of the logistics?  people buy the ring together or simply share finances?

i would love to be completely unaware of what my ring will cost but in reality i'll probably know because i will be choosing the ring.
  • we shopped the ring together, from diamond pick and setting. so i know how much it is. more and more people shop together nowadays too for the ring. i mean, if u are getting married, won't u have a joint account or share financial situations? if that's the case, with a big purchase in both of your lives, don't you want to know?

mine is about 9-10k. center stone is 1.25 AGS triple 0, with knife-edge pave setting and diamonds surrounding the prong head.

  • I have no clue how much mine was. My fiance won't tell me. I'm fine with that.

  • [QUOTE]Mine is a 2.9...2.3 is the center stone with small diamonds surrounding the center stone and the band. He paid less than half what it appraised for. Picture in my bio.
