[QUOTE]In Response to Re: What is a tier-2 bestie? : Can you explain your apathy about it to me? I'm not trying to be condescending or mean, I just really don't get how you can not care. Politics, even your local ones, affect your day to day life.

I *think* I don't care because there is nothing I can do to change the BS that goes on. Voting doesn't even matter because it can (and often is) overthrown by misc. councils who think they know what is best for everyone. Politic/politicians are also too tied in to money for me to take any of it seriously. (Although to be fair, Arnold <span style="color:#000000;font-family:arial, sans-serif;line-height:15px;font-size:small;" class="Apple-style-span"><em style="font-style:normal;">Schwarzenegger</em></span> didn't take a pay check and he still sucked. ) <div>I also don't think I have the "brain" for it, I relate politics to history, both subjects bore me to death. Everything else I enjoy, just not those 2. Fi starts talking to me about whatever's going on and I glaze over...</div><div>And mostly, I don't believe much of anything I read or see on TV. Everyone has an agenda, and so far no-one's seems to be whats best for everyone, only what is best for their personal party or whatever current person they are supporting, or most likely, their wallets. </div><div>I hope that makes sense :/</div><div>

I honestly have no idea what you are talking about in the bolded part. What miscellaneous councils?

I do agree that politics is often very closely tied to money (which can be discouraging) but I don't think it has anything to do with what they get paid, its mostly due to the cost of campaigning. I also think it might be smart to not believe what you read or see on TV. It is rarely the whole story.

I can understand that, I guess. I get being fed up with the system. I'm fed up with the system myself. People can effect change though. Saying to hell with the whole system definitely doesn't make things any better. I voted for Ron Paul in the last presidential election. Of course I knew he wasn't going to win. Hell, he was only on  the ticket in like 8 states. But it was a good feeling to go and do my civic duty and vote for a candidate I actually, wholeheartedly agree with.

  • LC, I vote for third party people (I don't know if he was listed as third party on the ballot in LA for the general election, but ykwim) too. Maybe someday a few other people will stop feeling like they are "wasting their vote" and join us.

The overall vote goes to the guy who represents me( and the general public), he can decide whether to use our vote or not. They usually do, but they don't always. I don't know technical names, I could google and make myself sound smart, but I really have zero interest in doing so. <div>I just don't like politics. I'm an honest person, it bothers me that in order to get anything accomplished, you pretty much have to be the best liar. All the back and forth between parties and everyone cock-blocking the president on anything and everything, the fact that he's pretty much a controversial figurehead while a bunch of old people who have their medical and retirement figured out so Boo to the rest of the country, it's just wrong. LOL. I basically don't like how things are ran, don't have it in me to run or fix anything myself, so I ignore it. I don't even watch the news. Actually ,we don't even have TV, just Netflix.  </div>
  • Ok, I think I get what you mean. Even if you vote for your Representative and Senators there is still a very good chance they aren't really representing your views and beliefs. I get that I guess.

For what it's worth, I do vote for the president, just not usually anything else.
  • I think you're talking about a referendum. Not all decisions are made by referendum votes though.

    Yes exactly! :)
  • I love politics and debate.  I don't think I've ever dated a person who couldn't at least hold his own (well I did once, but I was young, and he was cute).  I don't get apathy either, but maybe I just come from a family that loves to discuss the news.  Or maybe we're just argumentative whiners.  :)

  • I definitely don't understand politics - I just get so confused.  my bff is a one issue voter (she disagrees with abortion and will not vote for anyone who is pro-choice).  I think I'd rather be uninformed and not vote than vote for solely one issue, but that's just me.

I think with the 2012 election I will try to become a more informed voter (and actually register...) I just hate how much everything get's spun up and a lot of it is about perception.  i want someone to wade through all the b.s. and tell me exactly what each person believes.  and even then I probably won't feel like my views align perfectly to one candidate so I'll feel conflicted....
  • I should have known you would tell that I summered in the Hamptons!
