**Ang**

How's it going?  I've only been in and out the past couple of days so I apologize if I missed an update.  I've been thinking about you.

Re: **Ang**

  • Hi! I have not updated. I have been busy with wrapping up classes. I am doing well actually. I had to slap myself in the face and remind myself that I did not want to be that sad, depressed shell of a person I was before. I am back on track. I spoke to my H that day and told him how disappointed I was in myself b/c I did not make it through Thanksgiving and he said, "Well, you still have Chirstmas to try." Laughing

When I first stopped, I was making the days on a calendar of each day I did not make myself sick. I stopped doing that at about the fourth month and I got over confident and thought I was "cured". I see now that THAT was a mistake and that everyday I have to be mindful of my actions, so I am marking the days again.

    How are you doing?

Yeah I really do think it is similar to alcoholism in this way, we have to go one day a time and be thankful for each day of "sobriety."  I have a couple weeks under my belt now so I feel pretty strong but I also know I can't feel overconfident about it.  4 months or more is amazing, I haven't had that length of time in years if ever, you should be really proud of that accomplishment.
  • Well, it was actually almost year that I had under my belt. I am still going to count it as a year with a mess up! lol.

2 weeks is awesome. This is very hard but we can do it! Food should be a treat not a form of torture.

That's a good way to look at it, IMO.  No one is perfect, you can't expect yourself to be.

    Oh, and Hi :)

    And, I love you both!  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-kiss.gif" border="0" alt="Kiss" title="Kiss" />

Yeah I try to think of food as necessary nourishment for survival and cast aside all emotional connotations, but clearly this is easier said than done.  My mom also just told me yesterday that my formerly anorexic cousin is now eating everything in sight and has developed "chubby cheeks."  I had to be like "uhh, mom, do you not remember 1997?"

Hey, chubby cheeks are way better than Anorexia. ;P

  • This whole thread makes my heart go out to you guys. It is tough, and you sound really positive, so I wish you the best of luck. Kati, I hope your mom realizes that her comments might sound different to you than her. My parents say things now too, as if they figure enough time has passed that it won't bother me anymore. But you are right, it is a one day at a time thing, no matter how many years have passed.

Btw ricks, I love your fantasy Christmas tree scene. It makes me all warm and fuzzy. :)

Oh totally if that's all they are, but I know for me "chubby cheeks" were always a result of something...

TY and I love the new picture with the cuties in them!

I agree about the mom thing. My family does not talk to me about weight issues. It is too much of a trigger.

I think that's the way it should be with family, and is ideal for a long-lasting recovery. But it's hard to change these dynamics. Sometimes all you can do is make a decision on how much you let comments affect you and your perception of reality. You ladies seem to have pretty good heads on your shoulders... I know you can do it. :)

She said that, yes she did!

  • Oh do you mean the swollen glands thing?

Yeah I guess that's what it is - I just know my face always looks super bloated when I fall off the proverbial wagon.  And I find it hard to believe that my cousin "recovered" from anorexia overnight.  She is almost 15 and has to have her children's size 12 dress taken in for my wedding :/  Luckily I'll be home over Christmas to watch her like a hawk.

Thanks Beatles!  My mom is usually pretty good when it comes to my issues after dealing with them with me for so long, I was just shocked that she didn't see the warning signs with my cousin, especially since she has already expressed concern about her eating in the past.  Then again, I may just be being paranoid or projecting.

HAHA, I can't believe you remembered that. JK, when ricks posted that most recent pic of herself, I said I had big juicy lip envy and that next to her, I felt like a muppet. Because they have no lips, just mouth. ;)

    And thank you ricks.

  • Oh, well that makes a little more sense then, Beatles.  But still!

She does have some enviable lips :)
  • LOL okay. I understand now. Although Janice the muppet has some huge lips!

  • Haha, you guys are too sweet! And all beautiful. I really didn't mean it in a bad way about myself, although I do feel that my head is large and cartoonish. ;) Yeah, Ricks lips' are hott.
