I don't want to talk about weddings.

Re: I don't want to talk about weddings.

  • I wash my hair about every other  day or even every 2 days. It really depends on what I'm doing those days. If I don't get all sweaty or anything, it can last for a few days. After it gets cut/colored at the salon, I can go about 3 days with it still looking nice.

  • I guess I got used to it by not washing it on the weekends if I didn't have work or anything to do and was just lounging around the house. After that, one day without washing is NBD. I do agree that there are certain hair types it might not work for, but some people may be surprised if they tried.

I wonder what LC does. Her hair's pretty short now.

  • I've tried that, but my hair is so fine that it just looks so terrible.  I can't do it.  every once in a while, if I've had it completely up and haven't touched it, I can skip a day.  But it feels nasty still.
  • I used to have the hair washing oil talk a lot. I still only wash my hair twice a week. I sometimes shower at night if I'm up and need the extra sleep. But showers help me wake up for the day and feel all ready to take on my students.

  • Nicki, what did you have to do when you decided you didn't want dreads anymore? How do you un-dreadify your hair?
  • I wash mine any day I work out or every other day if I've fallen off the workout wagon... which I have done.  BIG TIME.  I need some motivation.
  • Don't you just have to cut them out?
    image
  • Seriously, Loopy. I'm holding off until after the holidays because I know how much FMIL and FSIL will be feeding me but come January, I will definitely be looking for motivation, tough love, and commiseration buddies.
  • Anna, I had a friend in high school that had dreads.  She had to cut them off to undreadify.  I've always had an infatuation with dreads, but I don't think I'd be able to handle cutting them off to have normal hair again.

  • I spent 3 days with a few combs, a few friends, and a bottle of horse mane and tail detangler. My scalp was sore for 4 months. But I had some hair! I had bleached them a few times, so the crown area was only two inches long due to the bleach eating my hair away (bleach chemicals continue to do their thing until you wash it out, and my dreads were so thick that the dye got in there, but I couldn't rinse it all the way out).

  • That reminds me Loopy. I need to run tomorrow morning.

I did a crazy workout on Saturday that I found on pinterest:

    5 x 50

    Squats
    Mountain Climbers
    Pushups
    Jumping Jacks
    Crunches

5 sets of 50 reps of each exercise.

OMG this is my absolute worst nightmare.
  • That is why I'd never be able to have dreads. The phrases "eating my hair away", horse mane and tail detangler, and sore scalp did it for me.
  • Heh I used to use horse detangler as part of my normal hair routine.  It made my hair so soft and shiny.

  • Hey ladies, y'all are chatty this evening.

I wash my hair just about every night. I skip a day sometimes but my hair normally feels gross to me if I don't wash it every day.

My back is killing me because I was wrapping about half of the gifts for Christmas. I love wrapping gifts. I decided to use old Christmas cards to make my tags this year and came across a home-made valentines day card from my second boyfriend. That was a good laugh, although we're still good friends.

<div>I do not, because I've only seen it once and I only have a vague notion of what you're talking about.</div>

  • I don't remember it word for word, I just know that he uses horse mane and tail shampoo to have glorious shiny hair.
  • I have a serious problem with workin in a barn: I use hoof ointment to strengthen my nails I use utter cream as lotion Horse mane and tail products on my hair And bag balm on cuts. But yeah, combing (ok, ripping) out dreads is not for the faint at heart. I still consider growing them back. My hair LOVES TO DREAD.

  • I've only known one person IRL who had dreads. I thought they were so cool. The closest thing I ever had was having the tiny braids all over my head. My hair is so thick and I remember it took hours. I thought it was so cool but really I just looked stupid.

  • Midge- feel free to come here and wrap my presents. I'll make you dinner and send you home with cookies. it's only...what... 8 hours in the car?

  • oh my god i missed out on talking about chocolate covered strawberries.

i hate my hair but also cannot cut it short. that is all i have to contribute.

  • There was a woman at the hair place once when Lucas was getting his hair cut that was getting her dreads cut out. She'd had them for years. The hairdresser had to ask her like 20 times if she was ok with it. She brought a ziploc bag to put them in.

  • I've used Mane 'n' Tail too, that's not the part that sounded horrible to me. Just the combing part. My hair is really prone to tangles and I've always hated combing my hair.
  • Really thick dreads always weird me out. They are so phallic shaped.

  • Petal- I loved getting box braids all over my head in high school. It would take my mom 5 hours to do, but then a good friend from PR could do it in less than two hours. It was awesome. That's how I knew i would look ok with them.

  • Nicki - Snickerdoodles are my favorite! You just might convince me. ;)

Are box braids the the same thing as cornrows? My friend gave me cornrows once when I dressed up as the high school stereotype "Ghetto" for halloween. I looked wigga-tastic.

  • MK - that workout seems brutal.  I can barely do 10 push ups, much less 5 sets of 50 mixed with all that other stuff.  That sounds like a CrossFit work out.

    I. Love. You.

I hate the ones that clump together to form giant monster king dread. I kept mine singular so that never happened.

I also only had them for 2 years.
