Le ghost town E...

Good morning and Merry Christmas (Eve)!  I don't think too many people will be around today, but if you are, what are your plans?

Re: Le ghost town E...

  • I'm here! I made my second batch of fudge this morning, so I am done baking presents. H is going to be my elf (his words, in English, bless his heart) and go buy boxes, cards and his mom's present today. I technically am supposed to work til 1, but I think I'm leaving at 12 to go home and finish wrapping, pack a bag and then get in the car - hopefully not for TOO long. It usually takes 2.5 hours to get to H's grandma's house, but I fear today it may be more like 3.5 with the traffic. Then we'll hang out/eat there until midnight when we do presents - Santa comes at midnight in Chile, which I don't like because I love waking up on Christmas morning all excited for presents, but whatever.

    What're your plans?

Im here. . but you dont really know who I am, so I don't know if I count Lol.

Anyways, plans for today are :
Take Lucy Bell to her doggie hotel for a couple of days while we're gone.
Pack for my parents and head down to their place before lunch time.
And thennnn Nothing. Im sure we'll all end up watching movies or something for the rest of the day, or maybe my siblings will show me their newest pet (parents have a farm).

Hope you guys have a great day! :o)

Fudge sounds awesome! Also Santa has always come to my parents house around midnight, but its mainly before two of the older (25 and 21 now) siblings couldn't wait when they were kids. So its been passed down to the younger siblings.  I agree though, it's a lot of fun waking up Christmas morning and doing all the festivities then. :o)

  • Dang... I was gone all that time, and just the two of you, eh?

Emily, I had a moment where I thought, "But it's already 2:30!" *smacks head*

Hi NCSU! :) Welcome.  I am currently the doggie hotel for a friends mutt. Who is giving me baleful looks right now for some reason

Aww! You'll get used to it though. Lucy does that ALL THE TIME.  Our friends are picking her up on Sunday and she'll then stay with them until we get back.  DH thinks they're going to want to keep her.  She pretty much forces you to love her.

  • Haha, ignore the looks, Snippy. Dogs are such little liars who try to convince you they are starved for both food and love.

It's 10:40 here now. I have done...let's just call it a minimal amount of work. I fully plan to leave at 12 and may not do much more before then. I don't know why they made us come in today in the first place.

Ncsu, tell us about yourself. Where've you been posting that you're silver, yet I've never seen you until a thread from last night?
  • I am so annoyed right now. My boss - who is super cool and doesn't care if I leave early and has on previous occasions told me to leave early - just told me that at 12:30 I have to go to his office so we can call my CW who is currently in Mexico. ARGH. He has no problem with me leaving before that, but it's kind of a bad move to just peace out extra early rather than sharing in the department Merry Christmas call.
  • Good Morning ladies!

I am contemplating making marshmallows today. On one hand, I feel like I haven't baked enough and I should have really stepped up my game, and on the other, I feel like saying forget it.

Plans for today, I think we're going to my grandmas, we used to go there every christmas eve before church, and it used to be a huge deal, but after my grampa passed away, we haven't really been there like we used to.

  • Good morning and Merry Christmas Eve!

I'm only in work for a little bit...going to be leaving half-day and finishing up the last of the Christmas errands.  I can't wait until tonight's Christmas party with the family.

My  boss surprised us all with Christmas presents and bonuses yesterday.  It was a real surprise and I'm really touched that he did that -- we don't have it written into our contracts and he certainly didn't have to.

Yeah. . if she could. Lucy would tell you that we completely deprive her of attention and love. . It's truly a bunch of bull.

I post on my local board a lot and I used to post over here randomly, but not too much. Our local board is flat-lining though so I wanted more interesting things to read and what not so I've ventured over to ChitChat and here :o)

What would you like to know? :o) I'm an open book.

  • Every day, our foster basically jumps into the arms of our doormen as though we were abusing her. And our dog totally plays off whoever gave her food last and will go into the kitchen when the other one's there and make these faces of "mom didn't give me my lunch, I am so hungry" - sometimes we have to call and check to see if she's lying or not because she can be so convincing.

Nothing particular, just didn't recognize your name and at first thought you were a newb but then wondered where you usually hung out/what brought you here.
  • Hey ncsu!

Good morning guys. I have to get out of bed soon and go get the rest of FI's gifts. I'm such a procrastinator. Tonight we're doing Christmas with my mom, sister, FBIL, and my nephew. My sister is 9 months pregnant and could pop any day now but I really hope my niece is born after Christmas. I want her to have her own day.

We've been staying at my mom's for a week now, so I got my boss to mail my paycheck to my mom's house. Well, the mailman switched up everyone's mail in the neighborhood so I have no idea where my paycheck is. I guess I should probably start going around asking people if they have any of our mail. haha
  • Lol No, Im not a newb. You ladies just seem so much more entertaining than my local board (it really is ghost town over there) and I felt like chimming in.  :o)

  • We are usually far more entertaining than this. Damn holidays interfering with internet traffic :)

Aleigh, I hope you find your paycheck! How did the mailman just mix up all the mail?
  • Good morning. I'm here. We were just working on our budget. We're still waiting for a package to arrive from Lucas's parents. Hopefully it comes today, otherwise we probably won't see it until Monday. We're going to his sister's house today for some gifts and dinner then tomorrow it's just the two of us haning out with the dogs. We may go see Tron.

  • FFF: I flame everyone who isn't here to keep me entertained.

    And M&R.

I think that about covers it for this week, and it wasn't worth starting a new thread over :)
  • Emily, I don't know if he's new or what, but the other day when my mom went to check the mail, she had her neighbor's mail (and none of hers), so she went to put the neighbor's mail in their mailbox and they had another neighbor's mail. So it's all mixed up.
  • We gave our mailman cookies for christmas. He looked at me like I'd lost my mind. . .I think my 'giving' may cause our mail to be 'lost' lol.

FFF is crazy! I've read some of them, but never joined. I haven't been around here enough recently to make an educated FFF Hah.

  • My mailman isn't getting shiit for Christmas.
  • Our mailmen are allowed to take anything from us.. He told us that one time during the summer when I tried to give him a water because he was sitting on the side of the road.

  • Aleigh, that's frustrating. You wouldn't think matching numbers on envelopes to numbers on houses would be that complicated.

Ncsu, I definitely lurked FFFs for a looong time before I ever joined in on one.
  • Leah, not even a water! That's a little excessive.
  • Yea, but he looked new so might have been just trying to follow the rules.

  • I'm here for now.  I have to go to work at 2:30pm for an incredible stupid boat trip.

DH and I opended our presents this morning.  We started the tradition because we both end up working late xmas eve and early xmas day.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Hi!  Everyone stay here!  I have to work all day!

I used a lot of exclamation points.  So, yea.  I have to work today until 5:30.  Todd is home with the little'un cleaning the house and going to market and things of that nature, so hopefully when I get home tonight I can just have wine and watch It's a Wonderful Life.  My older son spends Christmas Eve with my ex-husband.  He brings him home around midnight, so we wait up for him to get home and get back to sleep so we can put the gifts out and hide the elf.  I'm tired already just thinking of it.

Emily, I have questions for you.  I'm going to ask them today because there aren't a lot of people here to be like "Whoa, Mel's kind of an idiot, let's exile her."  Geography is not my friend.  I thought I had a good concept of where Chile is, then you said it's 10:40.  So I looked at a map.  I'm a moron.  I thought the western coastline of South America was pretty well aligned with the western coastline of North America.  I'm feeling sheepish.  Now I'm thinking that everything I thought I knew about Chile was wrong.  It's summer now, yes?  Am I at least correct about that?

  • My friend that lives in the same condo development at me was supposed to come over in about 5 minutes to bake fudge and baklava.  But I just checked outside, and he car isn't here (we have assigned spots).  I know she remembers because we talked about it yesterday, so I'm not sure where she ran off to.

  • Haha Mel, you're not the first. At least you didn't ask me if we speak Portuguese or eat a lot of Mexican food since we're so close to Mexico (both true stories). Central America goes farther east that you'd expect. Yes it's summer here, so since we sprang forward/you guys fell behind a couple months ago, we're now 2 hours ahead of East Coast time. In your summer/our winter, we're on East Coast time. Except if we spring/fall at different moments, we can have a couple weeks in between where we're an hour different. It's confusing.

Also, I am laughing at the stupidity of people on the internet right now. I just wrote a blog post that is all about how this year, finally, I'm kind of enjoying Christmas in Chile. It's hard for me to get in the spirit in summer since it just doesn't feel Christmas-y when it's hot, plus I'm away from my family/friends/traditions. But this whole post is about how I AM getting into the spirit this year and how I did it. Got an anonymous comment (which I deleted) telling me to stop complaining and that if I really wanted to, I could enjoy Christmas anywhere. Umm, I know. That's the whole point of the post. Reading comprehension fail.
  • Nscu, if your dog were gainfully employed, he would be a detective.  Everytime I see a doggie like yours, I long to put a pipe in his mouth.  One time at Petsmart I saw one, and I got really excited and jumped up and down and said "look, lookit him, him's a detective!" and Todd looked really ashamed to know me.  I like your dog.
  • Mel, sometimes I feel like Todd doesn't appreciate you. Because I totally would have laughed and then agreed if you'd said that to me.
  • Oh, he laughs at me plenty.  I took his look to mean that he didn't understand WHY the dog was a detective, and then began explaining how I had come to that determination.  He patted my head.  He does that a lot.
