Monday Morning

Re: Monday Morning

• Chrissy, as long as you Qualify I wouldn't care when.  It's almost more impressive to Q when you are old, ya know? Because everyone else will either have given up or broken down by then.  It's a dream to be able to run until I die.

DF will BQ the first time he runs a marathon, training or not.  I am sure of it.  Is it bad that this peeves me to no end?? haha

<div>Actually, comparably, I'm "better."  I'm a faster female than he is fast as a male.  If that makes sense.  But I work my ass off.  If I didn't, I'd still be pretty good, but not as good as him.  Plus, him out of shape = me kind of in shape.  So that's not comparable, because men and women aren't comparable (Olympics don't pit men against women).  Which is annoying because he'll run times I wish I could, out of shape.  I don't think I could qualify for Boston out of shape though, so there's that.  But he's 26, I'm younger.  The older you are the more suited you are for distance running, in most cases.  So lets hope I'm still cruising in my 30s. :)</div>

Well, you guys could look into getting into Boston by fundraising?

I looked at those qualifying times once and thought "OH HELL NO!"

Adamar - that is coming up fast.  How far have you gone so far?  Those six miles yesterday for  me felt really good.

• MP, we did a little over 7 miles yesterday.  I felt sick at the end, but I think that's because it was pretty warm (we were lazy and didn't get there until the middle of the day) and the water at the water stops was ICE COLD.  I think next time we go out there we'll make sure it's earlier in the day, and I'll carry a little water bottle that I can fill and let warm up a little before I drink it.  That cold water did not do nice things to my stomach.  I kept up the same pace as last week's long run, though, so that was nice.

Mp this will make me sound like a snobby botch but I just wouldn't do Boston unless I got the standard. It's a huge accomplishment is just getting a "bye " in a sense just wouldn't sit right with me. Chrissy I could be totally wrong but didn't they up the standards to 3:00 and 3:30 this year? And I totally get what you are saying. Fwiw he couldn't walk the day after his half lol Eta shiiit i2i Chrissy
• Chrissy and Meg, oh I totally understand.  I don't ever have a plan to run 26.2 miles, so I applaud you for doing, regardless of your time.

Adamar, it's so funny.  I wait to run in the middle of the day so that it's warmer!  I was told that somewhere around 6-7 miles plus you might start wanting to bring something to eat, too.  Like Gu or chomps.

• Chrissy a friend ran 3:01 and was bummed about it. I could be wrong though. I know with just my mile training I could do a half on pace. It's 8:00 right? But beyond that I have no idea
• Good morning all. You silly runners, there is no way I could do a marathon. A half probably, but I think I would die doing a full marathon. It's pretty incredible that you girls can.
• A - What cruise line are you cruising on in a few weeks?  Are you stopping in Cozumel at all?  I can tell you all the good places to go!  :)
Chrissy, that is a huge medal.  I love medals.  And trophies.  And free tee shirts.  I'm such a sell out.  I'll do anything, run any race, just to get swag.   Also? One of the main reasons I'm doing Boston (in like 6 years) is so I can get that damn jacket.  So many people around here have it and I want everyone to know "I QUALIFIED AND RAN BOSTON" First to, qualify. Then, to actually run the damn thing.  So, when I have a job and money, hit me up when you go on a little running trip IFANDONLYIF there is free stuff for me or possible prizes. Teehee
Posted by Megbo2012
You know you get the jacket from volunteering not from running right?  I have 1 jacket and my husband has 2 from volunteering.  I ran Boston in 2010 and did not get a jacket just a tech long sleeved shirt.
• Yeah they only did away with 59 second grace period. So idk why he was so upset. Other than breaking 3:00 is awesome so I totally get it. I want to break 3:00 but in a totally different event :P

Yeah I'm volunteering so I will get a jacket. But I won't wear that jacket with the same pride because it's not the same.

Awesome.  My first point of advice is to ignore Carnival when they tell you not to go downtown.  They own ALL the shops and restaurants at their port (if you are at the carnival port and not at the port in downtown.  You'll know the difference) so they tell you not to go downtown.

Try not to tell vendors you are from the cruise ship.  They will try to charge you more money.  Almost all of them will drop their prices to rock bottom if you want a little something to take home.

Best shopping:

At the very north end of the strip there is a place called Pancho's Backyard.  The shops surrounding it are amazing.  They have really cool stuff. Viva Mexico has cool glasses and pitchers.

Eating:

Okay, so here's the deal.  Pancho's backyard will give you the most mexican experience.  The food is incredible, it's not touristy, it's beautiful and you have to try a tamarin Margarita while you are there.  The best margaritas on the island.  We avoided all places that were touristy and north american looking because we wanted good food.

Italian is Guido's.  Best Sangria on the island.  The food is amazing.  Try to wahoo esalada.

Le Chef is this little place off the strip that has amazing pizza.  It also has a lobster bacon sandwich that all men think is the best thing in the world. It's a great lunch spot.

Rock and Java has fantastic healthy food for lunch also.

Las Palmeras is okay, but I'd go elsewhere.  But they have an awesome view, so there's that.

There's a little place that makes Gelato on the strip.  Try it.  The owner is italian (he also owns a FABULOUS italian restaurant that I can't think of the name of right now) and it is the best stuff I've ever had anywhere (including vegas and italy).

umm... I feel like I've covered food sufficiently.  It's a beautiful island, make sure you go downtown.

• Hello lovelies! Anyone care to sum up the important points from the thread? :)

The only running I ever did was in soccer. FI ran cross country in high school and just joined a gym today to start working out again. WOOHOO!
• I didn't try to read the entire thing either, Midge.

I'm home sick today.  Hopefully just a stomach bug and I'll be well tomorrow.

My former BIL just re-friended me on FB today.  I thought that was weird, but accepted.
• Feel better Muni! That is kind of odd with the FB thing but I guess it was a cordial enough of a separation for you to friend him again?
• Oh, and also, I don't know how long you are ported for, but if you want to snorkel and have the time, that is the place.  #1 in the world for snorkeling/diving.
Thanks for the advice.  I will keep an eye on him to see how he does today. He finally stopped barking.  The boy just does not like being in the there if I'm at home.   I actually put him 2 rooms away so he can't hear me.   Good news is DH and I have had a disagreement on his potty training.  His way was not working, so it's time for my way.
Posted by lyndausvi
Lynda, our puppy is 10 months old and still pees on the bed/couch/rug every once in a while.  Bulldogs are notorious for being very stubborn and difficult to train.

But I agree completely with the PPs who have said to just ignore the whining/barking.  If you award his barking with snuggles and love, he's just going to do it all the time.  It was so hard for us to hear her whining for the first couple months, but we dealt with it and now she doesnt whine at all (unless she legitimately has to potty).

You will get through this!  I promise!
