Re: Baby names

  • If you haven't already tried it, I'd check out nymbler.com. You can enter a name and it spits out others.

    I secone Henry. Too cute.

  • Bethrothed - yeah, my parents live near Watertown now. I never thought I'd say Buffalo was warmer than anywhere, and then I found out that the army does cold weather training at Ft. Drum. Not North Dakota or Alaska, like you would think. Northern NY.

Sucrets, did you ever go to NAAM (sp?)? My friend from Potsdam went, but again, I think it was after your time.

I went to college in Ithaca. Campus was surprisingly well plowed, usually. We were also on a hill, though, which was rough in the winter.

  • I just typed DH's favorite named into nymbler - Darth - and it told me it's a name used for both boys and girls!  Oh dear.
  • Henry is my #1 boy name, but DH vetoed it for a kid and so we named our cat Henry. :)

  • Have you checked out the Baby Name Wizard? It's got a really cool thing that lets you look at naming trends:

    http://www.babynamewizard.com/voyager

    There's also a book:
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002GPGZ0G

Oh, that's the kindle edition; I swear they did a recent update with new numbers.

    We like, for girls:
    Virginia, Franchesca, Charlotte

    For boys:
    Charles, Owen, Aaron, Robert.

That's crazy!  But it is hella cold up there.

I never went, that was more for Music Business majors, but it's a huge deal.

mery - my friend's parents own a buffalo wing place in Watertown, right downtown.  I forget the name....grrr....

Watertown is the devil!  I have family in the Ogdensburg area, and also in the Massena/Malone area.  Anytime I drive through Watertown or Ft. Drum I end up hitting some major storm.  Is there a single day in the year that they don't see precipitation?

We visited my Grandparents last winter, and we had the defroster on high but the windshield was still frosting over.  It was icky.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. [QUOTE]Brooke - One of my students talks about his sister, Neveah, all the time and always makes sure to tell my that it is "Heaven" spelled backwards. Creative, I guess. Mariah is a pretty name too, but I associate it w/ Mariah Carey. Doh.

Oh!  That makes sense, somehow.  I noticed that name is really popular right now in NYC, and I couldn't figure out why for the life of me.

  • My mom's family is originally form Ogdensburg and Watertown. Basically, my parents moved up there because my mom inherited a summer cottage on Lake Ontario tha was once her grandparents (she was born in Watertown but moved to Buffalo when she was 5). We used it in the summer when I was a kid, and when I went to college, my parents decided to move permanantly. Then they got divorced. My family is insane. My dad lives in the lake house now.

Living on the lake near Watertown is surprisingly nice in the summer. And extremely desolate in the winter. And you can only swim/boat 3 months out of the year. The water doesn't get warm until June.

Sucrets - if you remember and tell me, I'll make sure to tell my dad to check it out. I trust his opinion on wing places more than anyone else!

  • Sucrets - Another good website is Nymbler.com. It allows you to choose names you like and then suggests similar ones for you. Not like I've visited it before or anything....;-)

  • Mery!  It's the Wing Wagon!

Sorry I'm quiet, DH and I going through names.

His latest suggestion is the same as our last name.  Yes, the same names.  God help me.

  • I'm late and I've done this recently but I don't care because I'm obsessed with names (Gretch, we could have fun. I use to make lists of my favorite name for every letter of the alphabet)

    Girls;
    Greyson "Grey"
    Olivia Sloane
    Savannah Kensington
    Emerson "Emmy"
    Sophia (too popular now :()
    Avery
    Lyla
    Emery
    Regan
    Addison
    Eisley
    Harper (my nieces name)
    Chloe

    Boys;
Hunter Hampton (You can take this but then we'd have sons with the same name someday...haha)
    Asher
    Reeve Daniel
    Rye (for a middle name)
    Walker
    Graham
    Mitchell
Cullen (would be awesome if it werent for twilight)
    Cohen
    Holden

  • I tried to read this whole list, but I think some will be repeats (sorry):

Girls: Chloe, Olivia, Mia, Norah, Maya, Grace

Boys: James or Jeremy (I've seriously always liked Jeremy, it just happens to be the name of the man I ended up marrying). Except I don't think James would go very well with your last name! ;)

Two of my favorite girls names are in the top ten now:(
    Olivia and Chloe.
I also like Grace and Natasha.
My daughter's name is Sydney Leah.

My husband already chose and laid claim to a boys name, which I love....xxxxxx
We actually talk about xxxxx sometimes.  A lot.
I also love Noah, Luke, Levi, Oliver, and Max.

Sorry for the editing.  My husband saw that I typed in his name and got mad because he doesn't want it to sweep the nation.  Apparently all the pregnant knotties are going to steal it.  My husband is a girl.
