Irritations (rational/irrational)

Re: Irritations (rational/irrational)

  • We have a washer but not a dryer & our neighbour offered to let us use his washer/dryer so make things easier on us (which was very nice of him). We took on the offer & he told his other tenant that mondays are off limits since its our day & I am irrationally irrated because my neighbours tenant still uses the dryer every monday. It's irrational because he pays rent there & we dont - we are using it for free.

A major irritation is Dileni's overuse of the <strong>ampersand</strong>.

Please just type out the word "and". It cannot possibly take that much longer than the "shift + 7" alternative.

I believe this is also why people think you are in the teen age bracket.

This is silly - why exactly can I not use the ampersand when it means exactly what I am trying to convey? It is not like I am using text lingo or anything like that. I'm sure it doesnt take that much longer to type it out one way or another but that I use "&" instead of "and" really should not bother you that much.<div>
</div><div>Regardless, I am not to bothered if people think I am in the teen bracket, especially if they think that because I use "&" and not "and". </div>

I am irrationally irritated with my one coworker. She's out having surgery (that she's put off for nearly 3 years)  and that leaves me stuck next to her backup.

I am rationally irritated with the same coworker for putting off her surgery for 3 years.

I am rationally irritated with the backup for above coworker because he is arrogant, pompous, loud and has some serious BO.

And I am both rationally and irrationally irritated with my mother. She took parenting lessons from Attila the Hun and went to charm school with Mr. Hyde and Dr. Jekyll. And she is forcing me to spend time with my childhood arch enemy.
Now I'm irritated that Tom Cruise is going to play Jack Reacher.  I love those books and that character.  Bleh.

Welcome to the club!  I've been hearing about this from DH for the past 6 months.
  • Wow MP, I'm way out of touch on the entertainment news front.

  • Ugh, Tom Cruise as Reacher? Blech. Well, there's one more movie I don't need to see.

  • People who use the word "retarded" like it's an adjective.

It's a diagnosis.  And a pretty devastating one at that.

Would you ever say, "Oh, her shoes are SOOOOO *insert devasting disease name here*?"  No, because it's offensive.  Calling anything "retarded" is offensive, too.

I will step off of my soapbox, now.

This is mildly frustrating to me. The term retarded shouldn't be used to describe things you don't like or in a flip sense or derogatory manner, but you can accurately use the term retarded in a non-medical way.  You know, like retarding a timing belt?   The term itself isn't offensive, it's how people choose to use it that is offensive.
In Response to Re: Irritations (rational/irrational) : I've always adopted adults. My home county euths about 20 cats a day. Mass gassing, cats and dogs together. it's not a good situation for cats.
    Posted by StefffiC
Japan does this, too... but probably more than 20 a day.  Stray cats are luckier because there's no law against them, but stray dogs get it pretty quickly.  I heard there used to be drop boxes to dispose of pets here.  I hope they don't exist any more.

A lot of people abandon their pets on mountains or under highways figuring that it's a better option than giving them to the pound to get gassed.  But since most of those animals are unneutered/spayed, it actually leads to more animals getting gassed since they repopulate quickly.

Ugh just makes me angry to think about it. :(

Gotcha.  Unfortuntely, the majority of the times I hear it is in an offensive tone, not in a "dictionary correct" way of using it.  Like a retard in music means to slow down.  I get that.  I don't mind it.  I appreciate it as a musical terms.  I just have an issue with people calling other people/things retarded, being a special educator and having a brother with Autism and all.
