[QUOTE]In Response to Re: I judge : While I do not mind our HOA... I'm really annoyed at those who owe.  One condo owes $200k.  because of that and others we have to pay an additional $6k this year.  I'm so pissed, but there is nothing we really can do.  We  (the HOA) have sued the condo owner, but the way the courts work it will be a while before we see the money, in the mean time the HOA still owes the money to the contractor.

Ours is just REALLY poorly managed.

We had an Owner's meeting a couple of months ago and someone raised their hand and commented that they haven't paid HOA fees in 18 months because they never got the bills.  You get your little coupon booklet thing at the end of the year for the entire next year.  Why didn't this person get one?  Why didn't someone come after this person?  It's just really really really poor management.  It makes me sad/upset that I'm going to have to pay because people aren't doing their jobs properly.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: I judge : Yeah that's what pisses me off so bad about it Lynda. He knew the risks and didn't take it seriously. But the Coast Guard doesn't really monitor deckhands the way they do captains. My brother called the Coast Guard after he was fired and asked if there was anything specific he'd have to do to get a job in the industry again, and they told him no, that it would be up to his future employers' discretion. If it had been my dad, on the otherhand, he'd be out a job and wouldn't have any way to get another. When you're a captain, they certainly don't mess around.

I'm a licensed captain (although work mostly as crew).  I forget they are not as hard with crew as captains.. Since I'm a captain it would show up on my record.

  • Sadly, I judge my sister, she has two dogs, a big one outside and then a pug, who stays chained to their porch on a small 5 ft leash.. They don't let him be an inside dog because he pees in the house, but they won't walk him because they don't have the time.. Grr. I'm considering kidnapping the poor dog and giving him to the shelter.

Ah... we get billed monthly.  I do not get how they are not getting the bill and how someone did not realize (by both the onwer and the HOA).  If I do not see the bill I ask for it (our mail is really bad).  Plus our monthly newsletter lists who is behind and buy how much.   We do not mess around.

    Poor puppies.

Do they have shelter, like a dog house where they can go and lie down and eat? If not they're breaking animal cruelty laws and could get into big trouble for it. Just as a child you need to provide animals with food, water and shelter

[QUOTE]My SIL. She's just stupid. Wants to rent this really HUGE, OOOOOOOLD house a few miles from us, the electric bill, on a yearly budget is $400/month. They want $600/month for rent. That's $1000 before you eat, talk, get dressed, drive to work. Oh wait, work? That's right. You need a job first. I asked her where she was going to work this summer and she said, "hee hee, somewhere that pays a lot". Good luck sista.

This sounds exactly like my fsil... except she would ask her parents to pay for some of it. She would say "you would have me and the kids out of the house and our of your hair!" .. and she would actually think that justifies it. (she lives at home with two small children)

  • Yea, they do. The bigger dog has a house and hides under the porch.

My other gripe with them is that, when they get sick of an animal, they get rid of it, and then get another one.

Unfortunately the laws here aren't regulated like they should be.

This makes me want to throw up. WHY do people get animals when they don't even want them???? It's bad to make any dog live outside IMO but pugs especially are extremely sensitive to hot and cold and shouldn't be tied to a leash for it's life span that happens to be a long one. Please try to convince her to find a LOVING home for the dog since she obviously has no soul.

AandR:  I am surprised that legal action has not been taken.  Our HOA puts a lien on your place at 30 days overdue.  We currently have 8 of 97 units in arrears.  Do you volunteer for your board?  If you are concerned, I would suggest it.  I know that our boardmembers work their @$$es off to get things done but people still complain.  Involvement is the key if you are concerned so you know exactly what is goin gon. You can also institutue new bylaws (depending on your state requirments) that can help prevent the issue of which you speak.

Ew. At my last job, these ladies would always bring in fish soup and squid dishes. Which I love to eat, but in the privacy of my own home and not in a small clinic where I have to sit in tiny rooms with the door closed and talk to people for hours. The who used my office in the morning once left an partially eaten pouch of salmon in the trash under my desk, and I definitely mentioned it the next day.

Yeah, I really don't have time.  My sister and I have discussed it, cause she also owns a unit... we're both slammed at work.  Our board members are great.  All of both of them.  It's the management company that blows.  I really just don't understand how they have all these occupied units and people are saying "I've never received payment tickets."  Really?!?!? So, just because you never got them, I have to pay more to compensate for you? It just isn't the right way to do it.

  • AandR:  oh, no, you just hit my hot button.  I won't go off on you but I can tell you that neither I nor my boyfriend have "time" to be on the board.  I serve on our neighborhood board and he is on the HOA.  In a slow week, he's putting in 50 hours.  The other boardmembers work just as much.  It's simply important, so we make time.  It is really annoying when people say that they don't have time, insinuating that we do.

Also, in our state, the mgt company cannot do anything without the permission of the board.  If the board wants to lien them, then the mgt company can do that on their (your) behalf.
