In Response to Re: Dear Congress... : ditto this. I don't believe in 2012, and we aren't supposed to be able to say when J is coming to get us, but I want to have a baby first (is that selfish?) and enjoy being married. I think it'll happen in our lifetime. Revelations is a cool book.
Posted by Habs2Hart
Interesting, I know a lot of folks believe this too. I do think it'll happen, but not in our lifetime.

I also want life's blessings before Jesus calls us home (either in the Rapture or in death). I talked about this to some older spiritual folks and they responded to me with "Oh, please, life with J is far grander than anything you could experience here on earth." Let ME have that joy though, geesh.

Saving money is saving money, yes, but there are different things that are essential to running a country versus running a household.

No, I completely agree. I don't care where they sleep as long as they get stuff done. I guess some people were arguing that having the facilities open and not paying taxes on a home outside their offices is unethical.

Oh whatever. The facilities are open 24/7 anyway (because sometimes people are working 24/7!) and they do pay taxes on a home outside their office. They pay taxes on the home they keep in their district. A lot of members who do have place here rent anyway, so they aren't paying property taxes on a home here anyway.
• Well they better figure sh*t out quick, because if they jack me up they're going to need to add about 3k to their new budget to reimburse me for my trip. SOMEBODY IS PAYING MY BLACK ASS BACK.

• Hlq, its all out of pocket. And they obviously have to maintain residency in their state or district so it isn't a matter of just moving here, they would have to maintain two households. Its expensive to be in Congress.
• There may be some, but it's very little. Most only have a small pied a terre in DC and leave their families at home -- unless you're an east coaster like Biden who could take Amtrak to and frm DC each day as a senator. Obama's DC apartment when he was a senator was honestly a bit of a hole. I remember a story about that a couple years back.

• It sucks. My paycheck is cut in half too. I feel badly for the deployed Soldiers' families. We will be fine, but the families with kids, only one check, whatever - it sucks.

DH thinks Congress and the President should never get paid unless there is enough money left over in the budget for their pay. No problem for them though. We get half a check - their pay keeps on rolling. B*stards.
