  • I don't like vicoden but it could be better than nothing.

If I wan to ge through the weekend with some normacy, I guess I should give them a calll

    or

I have a ton of Darvon here. yeah, I know that the FDA bned it a few months ago.  I'd been taking it for almost  three years.  Do you think it would really hurt me?

That and aleve is all I have

    WDYT?
  • Loopy -- nothing, it's the beer talking.  Also, today was a rare day when I wasn't so stressed from my work that I could actually do my job really well.  It's a good combination.

Oot -- I have some patients that were on Darvon for years.  They were fine.  Aleve is safer though.  But I was making a veiled offer with the Vicodin.
  • I know. Abortion polls alway make me sad.

In NYC, you can abort up to 24 weeks.  M was born at 27.5  but I did see many babies of less gestional age in NICU.   One wsa actually an abortion that survived.
One of the saddest things I have ever seen.

and yes, I know I was sheltered
  • Beer highs are good too Mica.  I'm so excited to be going to dinner with H and some friends on Sunday.  We were supposed to go last weekend, but my flights were delayed so instead of getting back mid-morning I got back at 9:00 at night.  The girl at the counter was very helpful though, and moved my first leg back to compensate for the later 2nd flight so I got to spend the day with my family instead of hanging out in the Philadelphia airport during what would have been a 9 hour layover without her.

The thing that got me oot, is she was saying she would get an abortion if she was 8 months pregnant and in a car accident where her H died and she and the baby were seriously injured if it would save her life. And I really want to know why she kept bringing up anencephalic babies.

Okay, what do I do now?
  • That girl was an idiot.  She was creating overly dramatic examples that just were highly unrealistic in this day and age.  That's why I'm guessing (hoping) that she's young.
  • Oot, I'm PMing you.

So I didn't read any of the thread, but I couldn't blame someone for getting an abortion if it would save her life. I'm not a mom and I've never been pregnant, but I think you have to make the choice with the least amount of loss. If she dies, they both die.  If she aborts, only one person dies.

  • buuuutttt i didn't mean to bring the debate over here.  I just wrote an entire giant research paper on this stuff, so it's kind of on the brain.

  • Did you end up trying any of TB boards with your question from the other day (about embreyos)...
  • Oh hun, that wasn't a suggstion, it was a JOKE.

M was born at 27 weeis because there was something wrong with ME!!!

I'm really sorry if you took it the wrong way::

Please, kidding was all it was!

  • Abortion topics always make me sad.  I'm pro-choice, although my choice would always be no.  Some of the low blows and stupid arguments that always come up just ruin that topic of discussion for me.  Both sides feel very strongly, and will go to extreme lengths to defend their position.

But at 8 months they wouldn't abort the baby. They would give you an emergency c-section and take the baby to the nicu. At 8 months even in a serious accident they would deliver the baby while you were in surgery and you would never know the difference.

ETA: I must be tired as I just said the same thing twice here.

  • It'd be highly unlikely that a "me or baby" situation would come up like that.  As Ciara said, most trauma teams would perform an emergency C-section while trying to stabilize the mother, thus trying to save both.  Yes, most would favor the mother, but if it got to that point, they wouldn't be asking the mom's permission, she'd be so darned injured that they'd go into default "Do whatever you can to save as many people as possible" mode.

  • FWIW, I just wrote a 16 page paper on abortion and embryos and I still haven't decided where I stand in the debate.  I think there's such a thing as too much research.

  • Yeah, I don't think anyone really has a problem with having an abortion if it would save the mother's life.  It's just at 8 months an abortion wouldn't save the mother's life anymore than delivering the baby would.

No, Loopy, I didn't.  I was kind of intimidated by going over there and asking, but I had planned on it if I got writer's block or wanted some quotes while I was writing the  paper.  But I had enough to say without bothering them.

  • KK if it would save the mothers life I'm all for it. It was just the story that she threw in with it that was ridiculous.

I agree, I just thought in the hypothetical scenario Ciara mentioned it really was an "if I don't have an abortion I'll literally die" thing.  and in a hypothetical situation it's easy to choose your own life.

  • Jal, you just got my rambling answer.  :)
  • Ciara, I made a joke about being more proficient at reproducing as I only could carry the pregnancy for 27 1/2 weeks.

That's all it was, a joke

I'm very sorry if you took this to mean anything else!

Trust me, I wouldn't wish the endless night in NICU (91 of them) on my worst enemy!

I'm soo sorry if I offended you!

oot I didn't take yours as anything other than a joke. I missed some punctuation in there to make it so I was talking about the middlesexfells girl and not you.

  • I just skimmed back through all 10 pages of this thread to see if I could figure out where Ciara got mad at OOT... LOL.
  • I don't know what they're talking about either, Loopy.  Is that on the SB thread?  I just commented over there.
