Where is everyone? (Monday afternoon thread)

Re: Where is everyone? (Monday afternoon thread)

  • Nothing says "Casual Friday" like the "swish, swish, swish" of wind pants.

Excuse my stream of consciousness:  song of the day just popped into my head?  the theme song from the new Kathy Griffin show!

    I know what's your mind . . . I'll say it!  I'll say it for yoooouuuu!
  • Listen TK, don't "an unexpected error has occured" me. :-p

CFM - I feel for you. I do not miss that part of retail at all. Although it was downright amazing how fast my suddenly free weekends filled up after I got a M-F regular hours job.

  • I had to google what wind pants are. People always used to wear them in like, elementary and middle school. We always just called them swishy pants. I didn't know they had an actual name, haha.

Erin, what kind of flowers were in your bouquet? It's so gorgeous.

<div>I would love to get out of retail, but I have health insurance through them.  I'm hoping after the wedding I can get on FI's insurance and start looking at my options.  I have a BA in Classical Humanities. Unless I go on to eventually get my PhD it's not really useful in the my field of study and I so don't want to go back to school.  Thanks to a change of major and schools it took me 8 years to get that.  Add to it that the jobs in the field (other than teaching) are really competitive.  I also sucked at Latin when I was in school and I've lost most of the Latin I had.  I'm not really sure what I want to do.</div>

</div><div>Um...I'm not sure. The day before the wedding I went to a local 'U-Pick' flower farm. I picked a million billion flowers and the owner of the farm  is a florist. She arranged, cooled, and sprayed them. It was really relaxing and fun to do the day before the wedding. Plus, I loved helping keep our little flower farm in business.</div><div>
</div><div>I picked buckets of flowers and paid $7 a bucket. :) So thank you, my flowers meant a lot to me. I just picked the prettiest ones.

This is basically going to be the story of my life, except with a BS in Psychology. And 9 years, since I've decided not to take classes this summer and just split the remaining classes between fall and spring next year. I just can't deal with the stress of being a full time student and working full time for even one more semester.

  • Angel, I'm glad that you at least know wind pants by another name.  At first I thought that you were pointing out that I'm an old fart.

Rachers, that sounds like the colors for wind pants back in the day.  Did you also have any Charlotte Hornets gear?

I did! I had a Hornets Starter jacket in 3rd grade. Also, if the age in your blog is correct, you're only a few years older than me, so definitely not an old fart :)

ETA - Erin, the flower picking sounds really awesome. I would love to do something like that.

HA! HA!  It still messes me up that the Hornets moved away?  Are they the team in OKC or NOLA now?

My blog age is a year (well 6 months) behind, I think.  I just realized that the other day.  Oh well, I'll be 29 FOREVER!! :D

  • Is 4 weeks too little time to get ready for a 5k? Color me Rad is on June 17th... which is the day after Kenny Chesney, but since I'm probably driving to that, I'll be less hungover than I would be for the Color Run after the wedding.

At first I was like "Who is this NEWB that she's starting a thread!?!"  At least you're being proactive.  And so far, pretty normal!  Good jorb!
  • MP, I was in the percussion section. I did the crash cymbals.  It was fun. Thanks to the guy that was leading the drum section in HS I knew how to properly knot the handles on the crash cymbals so they wouldn't come loose.  When I got to college the other girls always had me do it.

Angel, C25k is 8-9 weeks of running three times a week.  That's assuming you don't have any set backs, which I have had. You could train for 4 weeks just so you can run part of it but I wouldn't expect to run the whole thing with that little time running.

From what I understand for this "race", it's totally okay to run some and walk some so maybe I'd be okay? Hmm. I can register until the 8th, so maybe I'll start running now and see how I feel about it come the 8th.

  • Angel, ditto CFM.  If you can't run 3 miles (or even 1 or 1.5 miles) straight right now, then don't expect to be able to in 4 weeks.  Although it'd be great if you could.  But I'm sure that the color run is not a competitive event.  Just be prepared to walk.  I walked lots of times during my half marathon.  Don't feel bad about it.  Just do your best.
  • I'm actually okay with having to walk for part or a lot of it... my first goal is just to finish a 5k. I don't have to run the whole thing, although that's my ultimate goal, to be able to run one. It's just been a long time since I've set a goal for myself, so I'm kind of excited and I want to get started as soon as possible. I'm going to to go the gym later and see how long/far I can run on the indoor track.

  • I am so bored today. I just finished my lunch and I am full, but I am already dreaming about what I should eat for dinner.

  • Angel - you should run! I'm waaaay bigger than you and I finish 5k's. I don't run the whole time, but I run a good bit. I think making it across the finish line is a great goal! I think you'll surprise yourself!
  • Mud runs look like a lot of fun.  My knee injury has definitely had an effect on my weight gain.  I need to get over to my mom's and start riding the horses again, but it seems like I'm just as busy now as I was when school was in.
