I opted not to get one from DH, but my engagement ring from my last marriage was from a jeweler on Jeweler's Row in Philly. We went to several of the stores there together and ended up at this one since we thought they had good value and good quality. I found out later that it was a jewelry store that much of my family has used for decades.

Helzberg. FI and I went to other stores (Kay, Zales, Reeds, etc) but were really frustrated with the pushy salespeople. Helzberg were the only ones who were friendly and not pushy. We were able to look around for six months before purchasing with them, and during that time they were never pushy or rude to us.

A pawn shop that existed in the 1930's, possibly in NYC.  My grandfather did an excellent job picking it out.

MIne came from USAA as well.  Another perk on it, they know the value and what it is so I didn't have to do all that stuff for hem to add it to the homeowners policy.  ( it is his bank, mortgage, car and home insuancce)

My sister.  Her diamonds came from my aunt when she got engaged and my aunt had said she would have diamonds for me as well.  Well my sister let FI know beginning of last year that my aunt had rings when the time came.  Not only did my aunt give my sister a diamond for her ring but apparently gave her another diamond that was set with two sapphires.  I had admired it once when she was wearing it. 

So the time came and FI let my sister and aunt know he was ready.  My sister was coming up for 5 weeks in the summer and we did a surprise visit to my parents where my aunt was.  As she didn't know she didn't have the ring but she said in the next week or so.  Then she had a dream saying the rings she had weren't right and not to give them to FI.  She loves FI but thought the rings would bring bad luck.  My sister and FI are now in a panic because we had a trip planned where he wanted to ask me. 

My sister remembered the ring I liked and had her husband bring it up when he joined her for a week up here. 

The diamond is from the 30's and was my aunt's ex-husband's grandmothers.

Some time in the sixties, some guy owed my granddad some money. He didn't have the cash to pay up, so he gave my granddad a loose diamond. My granddad had it set and gave it to my grandmother. They'd already been married for close to 15 years at this point, so it wasn't her engagement ring. So I have no idea where the diamond came from, and I've never asked where my granddad got the setting.
