Stealing from SB- Ask a Knottie Anything

Re: Stealing from SB- Ask a Knottie Anything

  • Birdie- I'm pretty sure that's the real name! :(

Scotts- no worries. I am interested in hearing opinions before she's stuck with the name for life. I'd rather hear it now before it's too late!

    LOVE it.

The part where denise richards dances with Jesus is my alltime favorite though.

  • Rosie, I don't listen to The Band a ton, but my FI and my college bf both really like it, and both own The Last Waltz (I don't think I've ever watched it though). My ex's ringtone for forever was "Ophelia." I'm going to have that stuck in my head all day now.
I'm sorry if I come across as preachy about names and stuff sometimes. It's something I really love and do a lot of research on but I totally get that my views on them are not shared by everyone and that people are allowed to name their kids whatever they want. :) If you want any help looking up Irish names I have a ton. Also a good resource is www.behindthename.com for basic meanings and etymology. Of course, most people don't feel the need to research everything like I do. I'm just weird that way!

Nooo, Bubba. Don't apologize. I understand where you are coming from. I can sympathize with feeling passionate about something like that. Thanks for letting me know. :) I really do appreciate it.

  • I like my middle name for a boy's first name, but then his first and last name would ryhme and I just can't do that to my child. :( Same with giving him my maiden name. I've got 27 years with it being misspelled, I don't want him to go through his entire life correcting people.

Drop Dead Gorgeous. You should definitely watch it if you haven't.

  • "Hey Amber, didja get my smokes?"

True story: I went to high school with a girl named Amber Atkins.
  • I just added Drop Dead Gorgeous to my Netflix queue. I've seen it, but it's been too long. I remember some of my friends went to see it in the theater and didn't invite me and I was pissed.
mixtape- we went to Paris last year and I dragged Mr. P to Disney Paris. It was just like Disney World without the joy and happiness. I still loved it. Actually, their version of Space Mountain is a thousand times better than ours. One of my goals in life is to go to all the Disney Parks. That's two down! Bubba, as someone who seems to appreciate Celtic naming conventions, I'm just throwing out there that no matter what our son's first name ends up being, his middle name will be Padraig. Mr. P is very dedicated to preserving our children's Irish heritage. He knows growing up Irish American was important to me, and since I lost my Irish name when I married him, he wants our kids to have Irish first/middle names. He also has a knot design on his wedding band because he wanted his wedding band to remind him of me. Reason #11, 676 why I love the crap out of that man.
    Posted by mandapanda78
I love Padraig! My H and I are Irish-American (as well as a handful of other things) and are names are all Irish. Our kids will have at least one Irish name, first or middle, along with the last name. It's always been very important in both our families to preserve our Irish heritage. It's kind of odd, though, that we don't keep such strong ties to the English/Norwegian/French/German parts of our heritage.

Yay I knew we were destined to be friends. I enjoyed Last Waltz because they had so many guests on it. I love anything with Joni Mitchell involved.

Musu, I think you can tell you love a movie when you like to watch it with new people and you watch their reactions. I already told my parents that the night before the wedding I am sleeping at their house and we are watching that movie. My mom loooves it.

  • Omg, ex-ACTLY! To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favourite books... I would love to name my kid after an awesome moral, good guy like Atticus Finch. And FI even LIKES the name. It's shocking. The only thing is he's kind of anal, god love him, and, for example, the first name initials of his parents, him and his sisters are M, L, M, A and T. it really bothers him that there are two names starting with M. And, since my name starts with an A, that would drive him nuts to have 2 A names. Siiigh. Hopefully he changes his mind.

I think I'll go all out and get the ears. When else can you wear those ridiculous things?

Haha that is a really good point. It is like when a part of the movie is coming up you love, you kinda get all excited and start side-eyeing the other people to see their reactions, and hope they are as enthused about it as you are. Which usually, they aren't. I probably hype the movie up too much though. Maybe if I did that less, people would find the humor more. Although, around here it really isn't that hard for people to laugh at it because of how self deprecating we like to be.

A girl is the toughie. H's mom passed away and her name was Cheryl. I'd really like to honor her by making that the middle name. But what first name goes with Cheryl?

There were only a few of us that watched the movie, so I don't think anything was ever said to her. VERY small school in a teeny-weeny farming/coal mining town.
But there were 3 of us that quoted the movie a lot. In our "senior wills," one friend willed a "big stuffed Jesus on a cross" to the other.

  • mixtape, I'm not going to lie, I will be disappointed in you if you DON'T get the ears. Also, you may already know this, but if you don't, please go to the customer service booth at the front of the park (any park) and tell them you are on your honeymoon. They will give you both giant buttons to wear that say it's your honeymoon. Park workers will randomly give you things and at the very least everywhere you go people will yell "Congratulations!" and you'll feel like royalty. We always go at Mr. P's birthday and he wears a big "It's my birthday!" pin. Last year Santa Claus wished him happy birthday during the Christmas parade and he giggled like an 8 year old boy for about half an hour. DO IT.

  • OMG LDY. Get on that now!

And Andy, I have to say I'm partial to David, since it's H's name.

Haha, that is fantastic! I hope people don't think we all talk that way, though I know everyone is convinced that Fishy does. I probably sound silly sometimes, but really it is only the SUPER rural areas that get pretty bad. J's dad has a pretty strong accent actually.
