Evening Thread?

Re: Evening Thread?

  • Fortunately I didn't have to deal too much with it, Brandi. I was out playing tourist with my ILs. Which is probably why she is likely annoyed with me - I was too busy with my ILs for the week they were here.
  • Poke - I'm sorry you had to deal with all that drama going on.  You are probably right about why she's cutting ties.  Some people are unbelievable.

KJB - I think you're right about the FIV.
  • I know Steff - he loves my dogs, so he'd be great in a house with dogs.  The few times that he's encounter my other cats have not gone well, but he's the sweetest boy.  After I took him in, he needed a few dental extractions since he had a cracked tooth which had abscessed.  Then his neuter site got infected...  poor boy.  I've had no trouble finding homes for the past few I've taken in.

Well then, can you find Leo a home? LOL

That's the one thing my FIV cat really struggled with - her teeth. I finally had them all taken out when she was down to five or six and one of them abcessed. For a while there I had an ancient FIV cat and an old FELV cat who lived together peacefully. Both were of an advanced age that we didn't worry about mixing them, they were happier together and having run of the house. We lost the FIV cat at 17 and the FELV cat I lost 3 years ago, he was at least 15.

I've been blessed by some awesome cats in my life, and I still have an amazing and fun crew.

  • Oh - and Poke - if she's as much of a "friend of convenience" it probably would have fizzled quickly once you moved out of the country anyway... at least until she wanted to come visit England.
  • What are FIV and FELV cats?

I'm home already, FI went to bed super early for the second night in a row. Boo. I could have stayed over because his parents are gone, but I'm nowhere near ready for bed, so I woud have been awake by myself and I don't like that unless I'm home, of course.

<div>You're probably right about this. Like I said, the only reason I'm annoyed about it right now is that I could use some company. I wish my BFF was still around these parts - but he moved to SC : (</div>
  • My oldest (I think he's about 9) is a little shithead.  I've had to bring my Fatty to the vet several times for infected puncture wounds.  That's the real reason I won't let the other guy out with the other 4.
But overall, they are a fun bunch.

[QUOTE]oot - can my miles really just disappear?  i mean i don't have 100s of thousands since we've used some to go to peru and napa, but I don't want to lose what's left.  I think i'm going to hawaii whether or not H is going with me. i shoudl go to europe, that would use more.

I don't know because I used mine all up before they failed.  Call the number on your statement or membership card.  My OnePass miles transferred over the the airling that took them out

<div>H got me on a more "normal" sleep schedule but I have a feeling that is going to go out the window now haha</div>
  • I think I just need to use them to be on the safe side. I've never been to Hawaii.  Well, I've never been a lot of places.  But Hawaii sounds nice.

  • also, if you microwave your bacon, put it on brown paper bag so it cooks in its own fat and doesn't turn dry and pale
  • FIV = feline immunodeficiency virus - basically kitty 'aids'  can't transfer to anything other than other cats, and that needs to be deep puncture wounds.  it's found a lot in unneutered males who are allowed to wander
FeLV is feline leukemia virus.  I don't know as much about that one.

  • I'm out too.  H wants to go for a hike EARLY tomorrow morning to beat the heat so I need to head for bed.
  • I'm supposed to go to the pool with my friend in the morning, but I'm not really feeling it. I'm tired and I feel like I haven't slept well in days... I just want to sleep in.

  • I almost adopted an FIV cat. It's not a big deal disease wise as long as it's the only cat in the house or the others are also FIV positive. But then we got Loki instead. XFI isn't a big cat person.
  • Goodnight all!
  • I like cats and dogs. But I think I'd have to choose a dog if I had to pick only one.
  • Aryn, have you guys talked about what's going on with Loki?

With that kitty in the mix you could end up spreading it. I had a peaceful, old household when I had a mixed house.

And, even now everyone gets along enough that there is no hair, blood, or physical injury to one another. Just some emotional torture of the bottom of the pecking order. Which would be Leo. Poor Leo.

FELV is also mainly found in unneutered males, and causes lots of immune issues.

I'd love to be down to 3 cats, but plan to let that happen naturally. It'll probably be a few years before I see that number.

  • Yep, that's why he's camped out in my bedroom.  I don't mind him being there, but I can tell it's starting to stress the rest - they don't like the door being closed all the time.

I'm not a dog person. And, I'm not home enough to be fair to a dog. Sometimes I feel like I'm not home enough to be fair to a cat, but at least they have other cats.

DH bought an air conditioner for the cats today. He's the best.

  • yeah, we definately won't be replacing any of ours.  My oldest has always been a little sick, I had him to the evet on mothers day - they still don't know what was wrong with him.  he's seems ok now, just getting thinner.  blood work all came back ok, so who knows.

I'll trade you the worst cat ever aka Tim for your FIV cat. ;)

She's like no cat I've ever had before.

<div>Not yet. I'm back at the old place for the night but he had left for work before I got here. Although I left my computer on the bed while I went to the kitchen and the little sh*t pissed on my computer. So in this moment, I feel like XFI can have him. </div>
  • as tempting as that sounds...
I miss my fosters - at least they came and went fairly easily.  The kittens were my favorite.  They were just so cute.
