If you got married where you first met...

Based on this thread:

I thought it would be amusing for us all to imagine how our weddings would look if we followed the author's suggestion and married where we met. Where would your wedding take place? How would people react?

FI and I would have an online wedding. We met on Missed Connections. So, a Craigslist wedding.

Frankly, I don't know how it would work, and everyone we know would think we were absolutely insane.

  • I was reading that. Hah.

ExH and I would have gotten married on CL also. I desperately needed a roommate and so we met through the 'housing wanted'.

BF and I would be having a wedding at my highschool. That's where we 'met'. The first time we hung out, well.. We'd be having a 420 friendly wedding at a local park ;)

  • Pogo Games chatroom wedding. I suppose we could get married in the living room of my old apartment since that is where we first met in real life.

  • I'd be getting married at a tailgate surrounded by hundreds of drunk college students.

And sadly that doesn't sound all that bad!
  • We actually did get married where we met. We both worked for the same church. Met there and got engaged in the exact spot where we said our vows. I'm not usually super sappy but I really like thinking about that.
  • FI and I were in the same homeroom and french class for all of high school, and also ran cross country and track together. Our home CC course ran around the area dump (it was a great course other than the smell) so I think that would make a great ceremony venue. Especially in August.

We meet at an Italian Restaurant.  Not really the upscale place I would want to get married in.

  • We met online but our first meeting was at a pub-style restaurant. There's no room for dancing but I bet it could actually be made to work. It just wouldn't be very bridal.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • A nursing home. I was a pharmacy consultant and he's an RN.
  • College for us.  We'd have to go eat crappy cafeteria food and then get written up for a party his roommate threw and ditched ten minutes before.  Sigh.  Not an idea wedding location...
  • J and I would have gotten married in the conference room of our ex-employer. We would have to settle for the lobby of the office since I'm pretty sure we wouldn't be able to get past  the secured doors these days. F it, why be formal? We could have gotten married in the elevator and have an Aerosmith song as our first dance. Close enough.
  • We would be getting married at Chevy's. Hmm enchiladas and margaritas...I could live with that!

We'd get married at a biker bar too.  I mean, we met online, but our first face to face meeting was there.  Of course, the original burned down and they've rebuilt.

Actually...it'd work.  They serve food (yay for burgers and fries, right?); have a band for a stage, LOTS of room to dance now that they've rebuilt, and all his friends could ride their bikes instead of having to ride in their boring cars.

Yeah, I'm not suggesting that.  He'd probably like that.  Undecided

<div>I have laughed at all of these, but this one made me laugh the hardest.</div>
  • We met at a bar.  Its the same bar a lot of our friends connected at also.    One set ended up getting married there because of a tropical storm and their beach wedding was cancelled.

It would not have been a sit down wedding, but they have good food. Still would have been an open bar and dancing.  Honestly outside of decor and food style not much would have been different.  Well they have gambling machines, so people  (including DH and his BFF) would be gambling.

We are friends with the owners, so it would have been fine.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • We'd get married at an anti-Scientology protest, and I wouldn't mind this at all. Alas, families want to be involved and all that or whatever.

  • We would be married in a large parking lot surrounded by drunk friends tailgating for a Bengals football game.... in line for the port-o-let.  Sounds perfectly romantic to me.

  • We met on a movie set, which is basically like a construction zone with a camera. Definitely not a place I'd want to get married in.

  • Most likely it would either be my freshman dorm room or right outisde the door in the hallway...but we don't actually remember how we met! We lived on the same floor freshman year, but I think we met about 200 people in those first few weeks, so who knows where it was. At least neither one of us remembers meeting each other; it would be awkward if one of us had a "that's the one!" moment and the other had no clue, lol.

Everyone's answers are way more interesting than mine!

We were mutual friends for a long time since we're from the same town. We were married at the Country Club in our home town, so I guess it worked out perfectly!

ETA: I need to jazz mine up a bit so I'll change my answer to be -

We'd get married at a glow-in-the dark indoor mini golf course, where we had our first date. The reception would be at The Cheesecake Factory since that is where we to dinner afterwards. I certainly wouldn't mind a cheesecake wedding cake! The after party would involve a viewing of "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" because we went to see that movie after our dinner. (It was an amazing first date!)

  • I don't think my FILs own the crib anymore but his uncle owns the house. Or we could do it on the land my parents owned just north of his hometown where we would camp and our dads would hunt in the fall. FH almost proposed in front of the gate to the old land but chickened out since the ring was still being made.

  • We'd get married in the living room of his college apartment, right next to the front door. It could be a college theme, I guess. But I suppose we would have to have Boy Meets World playing, if we really wanted to be authentic. But that also means that stupid blue recliner would have to come back from the dead...... and no. That's not happening.
  • We met online but our first date was at a now closed restaurant that is going to be turned into an off-track betting place soon.  So our guests could sit around, watching people gamble away their life savings and horse races!

That doesnt sound like an awful idea. Hahaha. This one is the one that made me laugh the hardest.

If FI & I were to get married where we met, we would have our ceremony at a little outside tiki bar called Coconut Joes, followed by a ceremony just a few blocks up the street at the dirtiest, trashiest, cheapest dance club in our town, called Cellblock. The next day, we would honeymoon by taking a 420 friendly drive around Presque Isle for hours (its a state park right behind my house...14 miles of beach!).

ETA: I used all 3 places because that is really how we met. Stayed at the bar for a little, walked up to the dance club, the next day, drove around PI.
