Re: Photography edits

  • Wow, you people seem to have too much time on your hands :) I was simply asking for a recommendation. I'll wait and see if anyone else is actually helpful on here, if not then just delete this thread. Hope you guys find something more productive to do with your day.
You want a recommendation? Go on Google, type in "graphic designer + city that you live in", and hit "enter". See what comes up, call one of them and explain what you would like. Chances are great that they'll want to see both photos that you want to mash together, so email them the files, and they will give you an estimate on #1: if it can be done and look proper, #2: time it will take, and #3: either the amount per hour that they charge or a total cost.

For myself, doing general graphic design, I charge around $40-$50 per hour. for photo editing, it honestly depends on how much work it is. Sometimes I go by piece work if there are just a few photographs to be edited/fixed, and they are all varying degrees of difficulty, sometimes, if it's general fixing (colour editing, sharpening, etc.), I estimate my hours, add a couple more for good measure and give the client an estimate of cost. I add extra time that I don't usually need to use, and when I come in under quote, I look like a hero for saving them money.

From what you're describing though, this job sounds tedious, and I honestly don't think that a good job can be done on it, but that's just a guess without seeing the actual photographs. With lighting differences in each room, potentially different props (are your BP people standing in front of or behind anything in the original photo? If they are, dresses and tuxes will have to be rebuilt). That's quite a lot of work, as I've rebuilt a see-through veil before, and spent hours doing it. So, from what I can see of the info that you've given, this will probably take someone awhile to do, and will cost you quite a lot of money. I should also add that I've been a graphic designer for 15 years.

I haven't gone through the entire thread so I apologize if this has been brought up but OP, why don't you ASK your BP if they can get dressed and take pictures in the Chapel? I mean they will be FAKE wedding pictures but they're SO important to you and affect the validity of your marriage...

I actually think that's a much better idea than hiring a graphic designer to fix the problem. And probably cheaper.
  • I know this is not what you want to hear, but:

    1. It will be nearly impossible to do this without making it look fake.
    2. As a photographer myself, I would be LIVID if someone took my work and started changing up the backgrounds and whatnot.
