This was a fun post -- I am surprised at how many people are walking down the aisle to pop songs, songs with words, nontraditional songs, etc. Very cool. I was thinking of the Promenade from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition played by a keyboardist, though in my fantasy there would also be a trumpet. Great piece of music.
The boys are coming in on a boat to Lets Get Ready to Rumble... girls walking down the isle by themselves to Hold on - Wilson Philips (we are obsessed with the movie bridesmaids) .. and I think I will walk to Marry me - Train
I stripped the vocals from a song called "Fall Asleep" by Steel Train (one of our favorite bands) and edited out some of the crunchier guitar parts for tone, and looped the sections with more strings. The instrumentation follows the basic Pacebel/Canon structure, but has a little bit of a rock edge to it, and is a personal favorite of ours.
I haven't decided yet! I THOUGHT I was sure we were going to use Queen's "You're My Best Friend" for our recessional, and now I'm not even sure about that. I haven't even come close to deciding the processional song. Really good ideas in this thread!
Right now we are thinking of using piano version of 'Nothing Else Matters' by Metallica. We want something a little less traditional, but not too far out there. Metallica is one of the bands we both like and this has very beautiful sound to it. The lyrics are also perfect, even we are using just instrumental version. Guests that recognize the song will probably get a kick out of it and those that don't know it will just think its a beautiful instrumental.
First wedding (30 years ago last week, actually), it was "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg. This time, it will be Rascal Flatts' "Bless the Broken Road", and having my daughter the incredible vocalist sing it for me. That is the ONLY piece of music I have settled on, so far. lol I have lots to do!
A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. We are having a family member who can play guitar and sing really well sing it for us, that way it's more personal.
I'm thinking of "Till Kingdom Come" by Coldplay for the processional of our immediate family and WP (going to have to time that one out some how...) and "Turning Page" by Sleeping at Last for when I walk down the aisle.
I always thought it would be epic to walk to the song "One Last Shot" from Pirates of the Caribbean (the huge kiss at the end of the first movie). Probably that's too much, but damn I love that song!
I'm walking down to "Long and Winding Road" by the Beatles. My dad and I connected by listening to the Beatles when I was growing up, and my fiancee's late father loved the band. It is just special and symbolic. My party is walking down to "Across the Universe"
My ladies are walking down to Storybook Love, the acoustic version of the theme song to The Princess Bride (my fiance loves the song and wanted to work it in somehow). I'll be walking down the aisle to the Throne Room song from Star Wars episode IV.
The thing I'm most concerned about is the damn recessional song. I can't seem to find one that I like!
I will be walking down the aisle to an instrumental cover of "Time Stand Still" by Rush that my brothers will be playing on viola and bass. For the recessional we're seriously considering the The Throne Room from Star Wars.
We are having a very traditional catholic ceremony but I'm still walking down the aisle to a GORGEOUS version of " I can't help falling in love with you" by Elvis Presley. It's sung by Ingrid Michaelson and it is deeply beautiful! Perfect for true love!
Wedding Song/There is Love by Paul Stuckey. Sister will sing and best man/son of groom will play acoustic guitar. Now wondering about walking out song. Very small wedding in an old house.
We're not sure which song yet, but "open arms" journey and "me&you" Kenny Chesney are at the top of the list and walking out will be "beautiful day" U2.
