Yes, here they are.  A lot of places put out water bowls for the doggies.  Mr Beefy is way too obnoxious to bring him somewhere like that though.

I see it a lot here, but only in the 3 quirky urban areas we have where there are lots of houses and restaurants and businesses all mixed up within walking distance of each other.  Picture Manhattan, but in a tiny little area.  It's hard to explain, but it would be strange to see it at a restaurant in other areas.

ETA: It's weird if you put your dog in your car and drove him to a restaurant with you, but if you can walk him there, it's not weird.

    Hi Ghoti!

aMrs -- There are a bunch of places that I know allow dogs, but I've always lived in high-yuppie/low-family areas.
  • FI is falling asleep on the couch, so that means bed time.

    Night ladies!
  • Do we have any lawyers on the E board?

Mrs, it really varies by state and county. Where I lived in VA was super dog friendly, same with some areas in Ca ( San diego), my hometown was pretty dog friendly, but here in NJ around my area, it's not really dog friendly at all.
  • Hi Mica, and goodnight Aleigh!

KJB, what's been up with you?  I think I usually come on when you're already gone or on your way out.

  • Hmm, in France dogs were allowed IN THE restaurants and stores.  Not at all unusual to go out to dinner and see dogs under the tables, or to a store like Macy's and see dogs outside the fitting rooms.  They even had tie up areas in grocery stores between the entrance and checkouts!

Here, technically, you aren't allowed to even walk on the public sidewalk if it cuts through a restaurants/cafes outdoor eating area.  Forget about having your dog with you while you have a cup of coffee outside.

I remember being in Marche Moderne in Paris.  The lady at the table next to us having coffee had her poodle on the chair opposite her.  That's an enlightened society!

H and I were always amazed at the perfect social behaviour of the dogs in France.  We always wondered if it was a specific "training philosophy" they used or if the dogs were just that well socialized because they are brought and allowed everywhere.

Hi! Nothing really exciting over here.  My one Grandma is not expected to make it through the weekend, so we shall see.  H got a 2nd job as a bouncer.  I got an email today from an HR guy for a hospital I applied at about 2 months ago, he wanted to know if I was interested in a better position, so that might be promising!  My little kitty that I took in found herself a home.  And it's raining again.  That's about all I got.  :)

eek.  Le Bon Marche.  Marche Moderne is in Orange County.  Damn, that Bordeaux was good.

Ciara -- I'm glad to hear Edmund's belly is okay.  Oh, and colic feels like it takes forever, but really it lasts for a matter of weeks.  Hang in there!
  • Colic sssuuuucckkkss.
  • Edmund will be a month on Monday!

That's the most succinct life update I've ever heard.  Golf clap.

Sorry to hear about your grandmother, hugs on that front.  It's never easy to say goodbye, no matter how expected it is.  Being married to a bouncer sounds spicy.  Have fun with that.  Congrats on the prospective job interest, but keep in mind all your jillions of vacation days now, because that made everyone here jealouse.  That's awesome about bathroom kitty, and it has rained here 33 out of the last 45 days, so I can totally relate and it is effing annoying.

  • aw, Kelly, You're walking on overload right now!

    (hugs)
  • Yeah, the vacation days always get me.  But this is my current reasoning:  I have my 2 trips planned this year, so if I were to be offered the job, that would be a condition of hire.  And then after new year we ****might*** be on the TTC wagon.  So there would go any big trips for the next few years.  Also, this would be a nurse educator position, so I'm not exactly sure how the vacation would work, but I woldn't be thrown into the bottom of 75+ people vying for vacation time.
Oh, and it would cut my commute from 50+ miles a day to about 10.
But year, 6 weeks or so of vacation is hard to walk away from.

  • Well, my grandma is 94.  So, while I am of course very sad that she doesn't have much time left, she has lived longer than most.  And up until about 3 years ago, she was incredibly healthy.  That being said, I don't do well with death.  When my grandpa dies (I was 12) they did not do a wake or a funeral, i'm kinda hoping we don't for her.
