Hi ladies!! Is anyone planning to use/did use kegs at their wedding reception? My reception is at Budleigh and i know they let you bring your own alcohol, so i was thinking kegs might be a chaper option than bottled beer. Obviously i don't want to throw in a stack of solo cups and turn my wedding into a college keg party, but i was thinking there would be a way to 'keep it classy.'

Any suggestions, ideas or experiences on this? THANKS!!!
Re: kegs instead of bottles?
I think as long as you have someone serving your guests drinks, rather than them pouring their own from the keg, it will help "keep it classy". Guests won't know the difference and it would seem less "keg party"ish in my opinion. I think it would definitely be cheaper, and more eco-friendly (less bottles to recycle). Great idea!
Not to take away from your orginal question, but I was wondering if we needed to get some sort of permit, insurance or license to serve alcohol at the Budleigh? I think my planner mentioned some type of insurance. Any idea?
If you are using 108 Budleigh, you have to have a licensed bartender or obtain a license from the town of Manteo. Most caterers have their own license along with the bartender.
That being said, I am not sure about the plastic cups unless they are the very nice ones that almost look real.
OBX2011, I do believe pilsner glasses are in your future! ! ! from the MOB in charge. Ha Ha. I just had to pull your chain!
Also, in terms of wedding insurance, I think it is a good idea to get some to cover you just in case. I bought mine at wedsafe.com and it wasn't too expensive. It definitely was not in my original budget but was nice to know that we were covered just in case anything went wrong....

For the license, if you are serving liquor you need to get a license from the county. You have to fill out an application and the license is $50. Come to think of it, I need to check into that because I'm not sure how long it takes to get the license.
We have a bartender through the caterer but I thought we still had to get the license. Thanks OBX! I'll double check with Black Pelican now...
thanks so much for all the feedback!!! we were thinking our guests would serve themselves from the keg, but i don't want to run into a license issue and it probably would be better in general to have someone else seving the beer than a guest.
OBX, are you bringing your own alcohol to budleigh? if so, where are you buying the kegs? or is your caterer taking care of all the alcohol too?
thanks again, yall are the best help!

Yes, we are bringing our own alcohol. We will probably get the kegs from BrewThru but if they are cheaper here in RIC, we will just bring them down with us. It's a lot cheaper if you bring your own alcohol...vendors want to charge for everything nowadays. We have been purchasing bottles of wine at Costco for the past few months to build up the stock. That way, we aren't hit with a huge bill the week before we leave for the beach. It takes the sticker shock off a bit, lol.
[QUOTE]So if I was a guest at Miss OBX's wedding, how would I know if I was getting Summer '11 wines, or getting Winter '10 editions? EWWWWWWWWWWWWW! LMFAO!
