And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Ok no it doesnt, but neither does Happy or Merry any other holiday that I may not celebrate at this time of year that someone might wish me. I see it as kind wishes, regardless of race or religion and I appreciate it.

No and TBH, I get annoyed at people who genuinely get offended by holiday wishes. FFS, it's a greeting and a warm wish. If it was "Go fvck yourself" or "Merry Christmas, heathen," then yes, I'd be upset. But Merry Christmas?
I can see why people who don't celebrate might get annoyed at the assumption that they celebrate Christmas, but I think they need to lighten up and realize it's meant to be a greeting, not a judgement or annoyance.

That doesn't offend me at all. I don't offend very easliy.
I also think that people in general are too easy to offend and tend to blow the littlest things out of proportion (In a woe is me sort of way). I can't stand that shiit.
If someone needs attention that bad they should do something good to earn it and stop whining about stupid shiit.

We're allowed at the clinic to wish our patients a Merry Christmas. But I also say Happy Holidays. The doc I work for as well as my co-worker are Christians and they say "have a blessed holiday" to many of the patients. Of course, this suburburn area I live and work in is very Christian but I am not so I stick with the Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.

I agree with all of this. It's simply a way to say have a good day at a certain time of year. And even if your Christmas day consists of sitting on the couch watching movies, you can still have a Merry Christmas doing just that. It's not saying 'you better celebrate, damnit!' It's as innocuous as saying Happy Friday or something.

Renee - I don't think it is. It covers the bases and I genuinely mean for them to have a happy holiday.
A guy at the store the other day corrected the woman behind the counter b/c she said happy holidays. He said" Down here we say "Merry Christmas." He then looked at me for approval. I guess he assumed I was Christian. Anyway I thought that was rude of him b/c the lady was just trying to be nice. When he left she told me she only says Merry Christmas closer to actual Christmas.

Yeah, if I were Jewish, I wouldn't be bothered by someone saying "Merry Christmas." But it would be pretty crappy if it constantly thrown in my face. It's like saying "Hey Christmas is super important, but Hanukkah is not." You can't lump this time of year into just Christmastime. Because it's not.
On the other hand, I think that the whole "War on Christmas" thing that is propulgated by some elements of the right wing is a load of crap. Who cares whether the people at Walmart say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays? I'm not Christian anymore, but I was once, and I still have great respect for the religion, and I kind of think that the glut of capitalism that takes place every December has nothing to do with a boy who was born in poverty in a stable. I like the idea of keeping Walmart away from Christmas.

I do get very annoyed when people ask if I've "accepted Jesus as my Lord and savior." The intent there is obviously judgmental.
