Re: Someone talk to me

  • I loved Catcher in the Rye.  And 1984.

    But I hated Moby Diick.

It is.  It totally turns me on to watch him count pills ;)  Ha!

But seriously, it's nice except for when I try to ask him about my meds and he's just a brat about it.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Someone talk to me : I loved 1984.  It was one of the few books in high school that I actually read.  That and Animal Farm.  I loved George Orwell.  ETA:  We also read Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.  That was around the time of one of the movies coming out (I don't remember which one).  I loved those books too.

<div>We actually did Animal Farm in class, which was like the only one I did the assignments for. But the ending of 1984? Oh man. It still gives me chills.</div>

[QUOTE]I will say that I'm gonna add some books to my iPad Kindle app to read on the plane to Florida.  I think if I tried to reread some of the classics now, I might actually enjoy them.

[QUOTE]The best thing about getting my Kindle is getting the classics for free.  I read a bunch of books that I somehow missed reading in high school and college.  I'm re-reading War & Peace right now, and I have a ton of Henry James to read when we're traveling.

  • LOVE Catcher in the Rye.

Sesh, that sucks that he doesn't lick it off.  Minka will shake her paw violently and back up really fast like she can outrun it, but eventually she licks it off.  She can't stand to be wet or dirty in any way.  She's incredibly fastidious.  When we spray her when she's naughty, she will lick herself until she's dry.  After she's done being naughty, of course.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Someone talk to me : I LOVED Clan of The Cave Bear...my mom had to read it for school, and she gave it to me after she was done.  The movie sucked though...I also hate Darryl Hannah so that might have had something to do with it. How ya been?

For school? That's a long-ass book to read for school! I enjoyed the movie for what it was, but I don't blame Auel for suiing for the rights back because they did butcher the story. Did you read the last one in the series? I get angry just thinking about it. I shouldn't even bring it up, but it's done now. IT WAS AWFUL AND BROKE MY HEART.

I'm good. Exhausted and brain-fuzzy, but good. How about you?
  • Ooh!  If you haven't read it recently (or ever), read Around the World in 80 Days.

  • I'm going to be reading Sour Orange at the beach house next weekend, then I'm going to read The Fountainhead.  I started Crime and Punishment, but just couldn't get into it.  Portrait o fDorian Gray is always a good read, too.

  • Haha, J&K, if we spray Whisky he just stares at us with that pathetic, "But why would you do something so awful to me, Mommy?" And then he does right back to doing whatever he was doing. My cat is broken.
  • I LOVED Catcher in the Rye as a teen, then re-read it as an adult and found it insufferably hipster.

  • Yeah, Minka will scrunch up her face and sort of hunker down until we're done spraying, and then go back to what she was doing for just long enough to basically say "hey, fuckkk you!"  And then she licks the crap out of herself.  WTF CATS.

  • Muni -- that's probably why I won't reread Catcher in the Rye.  I don't want to mar my memories of it.  It really touched me when I was 14.
  • I'm reading a book called Collapse by Richard Stephenson that is freaking me out. It's about the downfall of America in 2027 - Texas and Florida have been destroyed by hurricanes, the Middle East has joined one huge nation against the US and Europe and is threatening nuclear war. It's really intense, with no real relief, which makes it scarier because you can reallly see everything he describes happening.

It focuses on 3 main guys with no connection to each other that somehow do their part to save the nation. Not sure how yet.

He posted on Twitter that his book is free on the Kindle I think tomorrow and Sunday, if you're interested.
  • I haven't read Catcher in the Rye since high school... I will not re-read now, so that I don't ruin it.

  • The kittens hate getting sprayed, so all I have to do is come at girl kitty, and she'll jump off the island.  But boy kitty will try to endure getting sprayed for at least a couple squirts.  Then he jumps off and licks the spray areas while giving me a hurt look.

</div><div>FI's old cat, Basil may he RIP, used to roll around in the fireplace to get re-dirty after FI would have him groomed. He also liked to ambush people by hiding on top of the bookshelves and leaping onto them.  I wish I could have met Basil. I'm sure he'd have hated me, though.  He hated everyone except FI.</div>

I saw that today!  And I'm totally downloading it tomorrow.  And now he wants to follow me on Twitter, which is sort of weird?  He must have found me through you, because I don't know how else he might have, but it was weird.

  • My cat will bolt as soon as I even move towards the spray bottle. She really doesn't like being wet.
  • Oh, but The Outsiders- TOTALLY holds up.  I sobbed all over again re-reading that one.
  • Minka also likes the snow, so there's that.  But we think she's at least part Siberian Forest Cat, so that could explain a lot.

  • Sam doesn't care.  Spray bottles don't phase him.  This cat will just sit there and stare at you with this pathetic look on his face as you give him a bath.  All while not mauling your face off.
