[QUOTE]Beautiful rings! All, I have a question about rings and need LOTS of opinions... My boyfriend and I are discussing engagement rings, and he was under the impression that the engagement ring is just taken off during the ceremony and reused as the wedding band... I assured him while anyone can do what makes them happy, that is NOT the way 90% of couples do it,,, there is an engagement ring AND wedding band, or just the wedding band... Now my boyfriend is a worldly, intelligent, far from naive guy, but he seems to feel everyone he knows does it this way...(They dont, I think he sees womens rings fused together, and assumes they are one?) Time to straighten him out ladies! In this country anyway, wouldnt most of us brides not be ok with reusing the engagement ring as a  wedding band? Or am I wrong? (Lol... I KNOW that Im not!) Would love to hear your opinions!

<div>While rare in my experience, I have seen some couples choose to use an elaborate engagement ring as "both" simply because they felt a band would take away from the e-ring once married. But, most people pair an engagement ring with a wedding band on the day of the wedding. A bride will take off her e-ring for the ceremony and the groom will place either both rings on her finger or just the wedding band.</div><div>
</div><div>It might be helpful to go to a jeweler and have a look at the bridal sets to show him what's out there... Hope this helps! </div>

[QUOTE]My E-ring and wedding band are soldered together, so here are the both of them :) Both custom-designed and custom-made, the E-ring by H and the wedding band by me :) Not sure why the picture's sideways, but I'm sure you get the idea haha. Diamonds are H's birthstone, rubies are mine.

</div><div>It really is up to you both but usually an engagement ring is used for the duration of the engagement period and then the (separate)wedding band is placed on the same finger at the wedding and then paired with the e-ring.  Women wither wear both rings, the band alone or the band on one finger, e-ring on the other.  Some women choose to forgo an e-ring entirely and just get/wear a band.  And some women choose to not get or wear a band if they have an elaborate e-ring.

</div><div>You are definitely right! You have your engagement ring well before the wedding, and he buys another ring (the wedding band) that is use to put on your finger during the ceremony.

My fiance had his sister research what I wanted in a ring, and she did it very well without me even knowing what she was doing. I told her that if I were to wear a ring, I'd want it to be "simple and understated" -- I think he pretty much hit the nail on the head, what do you think?

I especially love the setting. <3 We were engaged on August 27th on the beach at sunrise. I loved everything about my proposal, especially since I had NO IDEA he was going to do it. He lied about going golfing to buy the ring, and hid it from me for two weeks before we went on vacation where he proposed. I was completely surprised. It makes the ring much more special to me!

  • Recently engaged on 8/25/12.  I love my ring and love my fiance!!  Can't wait to marry my best friend!

  •
Here's my ring! Center stone is a 1.0 yellow radiant cut diamond. Side stones are .50 each princess white diamonds. LOVE!

  • My fiance surprised me by proposing with this simple, but fun, ring! 34 small diamonds in a slight twist around the sides and 3 larger ones in the center. :)

  • Center and side stones are Imperial Topaz surrounded by diamonds.  I've never been crazy about diamonds and wanted a colored center stone.  I am totally smitten with this ring!  I am very picky, as is my fiance, so we went shopping together.  It's so awesome because HE looks at my ring and says "I LOVE YOUR RING!"  never heard a guy get excited over rings before.  I can't bear to ruin the symmetry of this ring so i'm planning on wearing my great-great-grandmothers wedding band on my right hand (his suggestion...he's got a thing with symmetry too).
  • Here is my e-ring and wedding band together :)

My husband had my wedding ring custom made for me, it has two bands that connect to my center stones, he thought I wouldn't need a wedding band because I had the two bands on my ring...boy was he wrong.

We spent months looking for a wedding band to fit my ring without having another one custom made, we were lucky and found on at Littman's; in the end I ended up with not one, but two wedding bands.
