I have been reading free romance novels on my kindle. One of them is a gay romance novel I discovered 10 pages in. (I thought Joey was a girl at first.) I've never read one before. It isn't bad, just lots and lots of penis and grabable butts. What do you think about reading gay romance novels?

Re: Romance Novelage
I pretty much think any romance stuff is hot if the characters are likeable. Boys and girls, in any combination can be rather attractive.

Do elaborate.
I probably wouldn't jump to read one though. I did go to the theater to see Brokeback Mountain - and while it was sad - I couldn't relate to it. Some people can, and there's definitely an audience for it - so why not.
Probably the same way some people like horror movies or comedies and others prefer something else.
I will admit- romance novels are my dirty little secret

And, of course, there are plenty of socially inflicted rules like how to be outed, how to navigate getting pregnant/married in places marriages are not legally recognized etc.etc.

The gay stuff might throw me off a little bit. I have nothing against it, but it's NMS.
That's a lot of rules. I'm going to have to make flash cards if I ever want to be a lesbian.
To me reading romance novels is like eating snack food or watching a sit-com. Still satisfying in a guilty sort of way.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Actually, the week before my BF and I started dating, a bunch of friends crashed at my place after a night out so they didn't have to drive, and we ended up having a 'slumber party' in my living room. They were all teasing me about the romance novels on my bookshelf, so I pulled one down and started reading the steamy section out loud in a dramatic voice. We all were dying laughing, and the boys were wide-eyed - they couldn't believe women read this type of smut! So yeah, my BF definitely knew what he was getting himself into before we ever started dating!
I can't say I've ever read a romance novel that was strictly gay - I've had romance novels with multiple couples, and one was gay, but it wasn't the focus of the book. It wouldn't bother me at all, but I'm not sure I'd purchase it at the bookstore.
[QUOTE]I'm not a fan of romance novels in general. They're just not my thing.

Same here. I go for non-fiction, science fiction, and the occasional mystery :)

[QUOTE]One of my guilty pleasures is J. R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It started as paranormal romance (it's a modern vampire series), but after six or seven books flipped over to urban fantasy instead. Almost all of the relationships are heterosexual, but I have to say, the subplot involving a gay vampire who falls in love with his bisexual best friend (also a vampire) is probably the hottest romance in the series -- and it isn't even a romance yet! Just a whole lot of sexual tension.
