Haha LC you definitely are full of win with the dead baby jokes.
And totally off topic, because I don't think I've been around much at the same time as you lately, but I'm in love with your sig pic. It's so badass and totally shows how you rocked that hat!
You know what they say - hatters be hattin. And nobody is a hatter like LC.
Do not mess in the affairs of dinosaurs because you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
1) I'm sad that it took the fact that the military won't get paid to raise people's awareness of the gov't shut down. And I don't hold out hope that people will remember that come the next election cycle.
2) About 9% of what PP does is abortion-related care. 91% is about preventative care, birth control, and well-woman and well-child check ups.

Apparently I'm going to a horse track for my friend's b-day (I'd rather not spend the money and she included an "in lieu of gifts" line in her invite, ugh), but it's in Inglewood, so I don't know that it's the kind of track where you wear hats. ;-)
Mery -- I'm sure yelp knows if you should wear a hat. I went to a local track once (in glamourous Oakland, CA) and there were groups of people there wearing hats and seersucker.
Eta: my husband just bought a seersucker suit and a hat for going to the track. He looks sort of cute in it, will have to take pictures when it's all tailored and ready to go.
Late to the game. But my heart goes out to all of you directly effect by this shutdown.
Living down here I just assumed I would not be effected. The whole alphabet is here (INS, IRS, FBI, EPA, ETA, US Marshal, etc), but really they do not have much of a presence. Few officers here and there, but nothing big.
About an hour ago we got a call saying we are not allowed to snorkel at some of our normal spots because the National Park is going to be shutting down as of 6pm tomorrow. I completely forgot about the NP. It's not really a big deal if we go somewhere else (guests get a little annoyed). I'm just sad for the rangers know. I completely forgot they are federal not local.
I guess I'm a little more effect than I realize.
What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests. Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

Midget, my response to people with your line of thinking is the following: I think it's hard to argue that just because a woman got pregnant she is now less important than a fetus/other human (if you see fetuses as fully-formed humans). Even if you believe that they're equal - which clearly you do, if you equate abortion with the murder of a person - then that's pretty much the limit in terms of how much importance the fetus gets. So, two humans being equal, the woman maintains her rights to decide what goes on with her body and maintains the right to remove the parasitic organism from it. If a fetus could survive on its own, then great, but it can't, so it's going to die anyway once removed. I don't think we call dying of natural causes murder, so abortion of a fetus that cannot survive on its own isn't murder. I really don't see how you can support the abortion = murder argument unless you believe that pregnant women have lost their rights to their own bodies, and that's something I will just never be able to understand. Or until we invent a way to allow fetuses to be brought to term in a laboratory. Posted by emilyinchile[/QUOTE]
I never said that the woman was less important than the fetus. Just because the fetus needs the mother to survive does not mean that is has less of a right to live. That is how God made us, that is how the life cycle works. Calling a fetus a parasitic organism is pretty harsh in my opinion. I also wouldn't call abortion dying from natural causes. The adult chose to remove the baby from a life sustaining womb.
And I forget who asked this, but I am against the death penelty.

You still didn't answer my question, Midget. Why is what another woman does with her reproductive issues any of your concern? What bearing does it have on your life?

Exactly. I know this thread is dead and I'm late getting to it but there are a few things I'd like to say. If we lived in a perfect world and people self-regulated to do the right thing all the time, we'd have no need for government. But as evident in the high numbers of rape/molestation, murder, robberies etc, we aren't a self-regulating people (society not individuals). It is because of our inability to self-regulate that government is necessary.
That being said, I have an enormous problem with someone telling me that what works for them should be the ONLY way to do it. If what I'm doing isn't negatively affecting others (example...having control of my reproductive system) then you have no right to tell me what to do/not to do.

Sorry, there was a lot going on in this thread and I'm just now getting back around to it. Didn't mean to ignore any specific questions.
For me, and I know you are all probably going to hate this, abortion is a black and white issue. It is murder and murder is wrong. That's what bearing it has on my life. I just care about the lives of others, and I'm not saying that you all don't. This is just an issue that I am passionate about.
