• I loved Mr. Feeny on BMW. And Eric (?) who used to do his annoying whiny thing with Feeny's name. I hate and love all of the characters on there. Hate and love.
• I just want to go home and watch Boy Meets World and Saved By The Bell all afternoon now.
• September 11th was a huge deal. I remember all of the teachers stopped teaching and we all just sort of sat there. They didn't let us watch on TV. My history teacher used to do government work and he was called to go help with something September 11th related and they had to hire a new teacher for us for the remainder of the year. That was such a sad time.
• Sometimes I make H feel really old by talking about trends and shows and whatnot that were popular when I was a kid. He's 7 years older, so we don't share the same love for things. He never even had a Tomagotchi! Or however you spell it.
• Didn't the subject of Pogs get brought up not too long ago? I used to love those things when I was a kid.

• Did I watch "Saved by the Bell"?

More like "Good morning Miss Bliss".
• The original Morgan on BMW was much more hilarious than the one they replaced her with. She had this great deadpan delivery to her lines. The one they replaced her with was hokey and less adorable than the original.

Columbine and 9/11 both happened while I was in HS. I remember watching the news coverage of Columbine during my freshman Ceramics class, and then I was in senior English watching the coverage of 9/11. They wouldn't let us out of school during 9/11; they said it was safer to keep us there than release us while our parents were all most likely still at work. I remember that sinking feeling in my stomach that whole day. I was nowhere near ground zero, but I still felt so vulnerable and afraid.

One of my favorites was when he was shouting out random variations of FEEEENNNYYYY! and made a weird noise, stopped, and said, "hey, that was a new one!"

Cracks me up just thinking about it.
• In cleaning out my old stuff from my Mom's, I found a box of Beanie Babies. My first though was "oh! I wonder how much I could sell these for." Then I realized I could probably get $5 for the whole damn box.

On my last day of student teaching, my students performed a dance to a Backstreet Boys song. Apparently now it's "in" as "vintage" music. Wanted. To. Cry.

A reference to Kurt Cobain went right over their heads.

My sister and I were watching the pilot of Dawson's Creek a while back (yes, she owns the DVDs of all the seasons) and we noticed Dawson's giant computer screen in the background. We realized that if my nephews ever see that show (or any from the 90s), we will probably have to explain to them that that's a computer. They look so different from what we have now.

I also heard on the radio that most kids nowadays have never used a land line. Ever.

• oh. um. having a baby? yeah.

Also interviewing college kids that are all born in the 1990s.
• Punky Brewster. I made a reference to that a couple weeks ago and got some looks.
• ha, Ali. There's that weekend morning "Flash Back USA" radio show? I think with Casey Kasem or whatever his name is. A few weekends ago it was all late 90s music. WTF.

and re: Dawson's Creek. There's an episode where Jen is on an old Blueberry MacBook. I remembered my friend having one of thsoe and being SO JEALOUS.
• OMG anna, I loved Miss Bliss. She was, like, the BEST teacher ever. I loved her voice.
Sesh - ohhh Tomagotchi's! Those were awesome, until you killed them. Then it was a pain in the butt to find a pen to reset it. Ha! I'm still stuck on floppy discs. Did anyone else have the Barbie game? She was in a mall and it was all 2-dimensional? Gah, I'd still play that game.
Posted by rachers1017
I wrote my first THREE books on floppy discs. And I still have them. I have this USB attachment thing so I can still access the original files, which ended u being a lifesaver when my laptop crashed.
• Brandi, you remember Punky Brewster? I feel like I was just a young kid when that was on.

My mom was fucking obsessed with getting me all the beanie babies from McDonalds and I have no idea why. I never wanted them, lol.

I DID love trolls. I wonder if she still has my whole collection of them.

Classic. And remember the episode where Jack plans a date with the guy he meets online? Their IM conversation and the pic the guy sends him that seems to load one pixel at a time... memories.

• Nates- I think it was way before my time, but I had a copy of it on VHS ( I think a yard sale find) in the 90's and I loved them.

• DJ, I have the first Lord of the Rings on VHS, and only VHS. We watched it recently and were like, holy crap, we used to think this was high quality?! Yeah, we need to upgrade that to a DVD.
In Response to Re: Things that make you feel old : Let's add the number of my favorite movies I own on VHS AND the number of cassette tapes I still own to the list of things that make me feel old.

I remember getting a VCR as a birthday present and being SO excited because I had some advanced technology as an 8 year old.
• I also miss snap bracelets.

Entertainment was simpler back then, lol.
• When I used to go the video store with my dad to pick out movies they had separate betamax and VHS sections.

• I think I read every single novel of The Boxcar Children in elementary school. I wanted to run away and live in an empty train car so friggin' bad when I was a kid.

I never had a Tomagotchi, but I did have a GigaPet. It was a monkey, which is pretty much the lamest one of all of them. He didn't grow so much as he just got fat and turned from a monkey into a gorilla. I wanted the puppy one.

Do you think they'll ever phase out the floppy disk save button? Because it pretty much makes no sense now that the younger generation doesn't even know what it is that they're clicking on to save their document.

I remember watching "Stand By Me" and "La Bamba" on Betamax. In fact, my first crush was on Gordie (Wil Wheaton) in "Stand By Me". Now that he's all grown up and a certified nerd, I still find him very attractive lol. Our love is everlasting, it has survived nearly 25 years of infatuation.

YES! My mom read my sister and I every single one of the original books (before the ghostwriter ones came out, although I think we read some of those, too). My sister and I used to pretend we were Violet and Jessie living out in the woods. Loved those books.

That Mickey Mouse cartoons are digital and looks 3D.

Ahh the Boxcar Children and the Babysitters Club were all good reads for me when I was younger. I also like a lot of the Judy Blume stuff. My all time favorite books were the choose your own ending books where depending what you wanted to happen you could flip to different pages of book. I LOVED those.

I also have a crapton of Beenie Babies. I loved my dalmation one and my monkey. I had some pretty weird/cool dragon ones and I think a fish one that I liked.

ETA: I actually think they were called choose your own adventure books.
In Response to Re: Things that make you feel old : Didn't one of those have red little stickers you had to wear, aka "zits"? I remember playing Girl Talk and Sweet Valley High. I thought there was some other game with a bunch of "hunks" on playing cards but can't remember anything else about it.
Posted by KateJ10
That was Girl Talk 100% sure.

I loved the Boxcar Children and Goosebumps. Both have been rereleased with new covers, which makes me feel old.
• My 10 year high school reunion will be in two years. H's is next year.

I also loved the Choose Your Own Adventure books and they still make them! I don't know if they're new or not though.
