Wedding Stress

We're really stressing about the wedding costs. With the bank over paying our mortgage by 6 months, they wiped out all of our wedding savings so we're scrambling to cut as much as possible without losing any money. Looking at how I've spent, I just cant see where we're going to be able to do this. We've already cut alcohol (I know, I know, but we haven't any choice) favors, decor.... I just don't know what else to do.Photographer is only $300, dress was $450 and is almost all paid for, flowers are $150... If I could, I would cancel our ceremony venue and go with a park, but October in Michigan is iffy to say the least, weather wise. I don't know what else to do.

Could you order the flowers in bulk and DIY? I've found some as cheap as $.50/stem.

Do you have a credit card? You had savings for a reason and you won't have mortgage payments. I know it isn't ideal, but isn't this one circumstance where that isn't so bad since you know you'll have a return from non paying the mortgage for the next six months?

We are going to have to credit card it, but we *really* don't want to put $7g's on there. We can, we just don't want to because of the extra interest. That, and we were trying to pay those biitches off.

I'm not normally a proponent of loans/CCs but you didn't really do it to yourself so in this case could you take out a short term loan at a lower rate than the CCs?

I don't think we want to get anymore into the bank than we already are. With our current overseas situation, we can't apply at any other banks.

I'm really sorry that you're in this circumstance. I was about to create a venting post re: $, but I realize that my situation has not even materialized and that it couldbe worse. I say credit card it. Good Luck!

Haha! Donation blog! :)The restaurant is located in a downtown area that is not quite revitalized just yet. It's about halfway there. Aand... it's really close to the highway. Maybe I could give up music in lieu of the sounds of 18 wheelers as they pass by!

Could you look at firehouse ceremony/receptions? Those are normally super cheap but can be made very pretty (according to my mom). umm...I second donation box...or craigslist sponsors ? You could play off as the American girl who was forced to move to Italy and now can't afford her dream wedding! (they don't have to know that's not true)

Could you scrap the flowers completely and the ceremony and just get married in front of a judge at the courthouse? Then just invite everyone to the restaurant?

I dont have any useful suggestions (other than cutting flowers completely, but I dont know what youre doing with them so its hard to say if that is useful or not). I wish I still had some wedding decor kicking around I could send your way but I got rid of it all after my own wedding. Sorry to hear the bank F'd you in the A like that.

The "room rental" for our reception at the restaurant is $100, and it gets applied towards our final bill. We are already doing music through ipod. :)Ooh... Katie, you're right! I should play off the indentured servant role. Hmmm...I really appreciate all these suggestions. It makes me think that I've already covered everything and short of getting some super cheap fake flowers... I'm not sure what else to do. We want to at least feed everyone decently. I'm keeping my mouth shut with the "I told you so" to FI because I told him originally that we just needed to JOP this sucker and get it over with. Now his sister can't attend because she'll be 9 months, his parents may not be able to attend for health reasons... So, we're throwing a party for my family. That I can't pay for. Noice.Do you think that having the rehearsal dinner 45 minutes away from where the rehearsal will be is okay? That's the home of the only person we know who lives in that area.

Flowers are my bouquet, 2 bms and 2 corsages for mom's. I could cut the corsages for mom's and change the flowers to something cheaper. Right now it's roses, but I could do carnations, easy.

If changing the flowers will help considerably, I'd do that. It doesn't sound like there's a whole lot else you can do. Having the RD 45 minutes away form the rehearsal will be pain, but if it'll save you money, I say you should go for it.I'm sorry you're having to deal with this all. I wish there was something you could do to elope like you wanted to.

Could only you have a bouquet, slightly downsides to something cheaper than roses, and your girls have no bouquet? It would only save like 100$ but thats still savings!

Since you have to pay 100 bucks for the room anyway, could you get married there? If you're thinking the JOP route, that wouldn't be much different and then you wouldn't be out the money.
