Morning!

2

Re: Morning!

  • Good morning ladies.  It is HOT even in the mountains of NC, it is NOT supposed to be hot here.  A/C, nobody has it.  So I decided to give sweet Cleopatra a hair cut this morning to try to keep her cool, now she is not so sweet.  She is looking at mom with the death glare.  She might never forgive me.
  • I tried to convince my FI to let me shave our cat to look like a lion. He said no, because apparently cats' and dogs' hair is designed to help keep them cool.

It would have been so cute, though.

  • JGreer, yall don't have A.C. in the mountains?
  • H shaved the cats when they had fleas. I did not condone it, he did it while I was at work. But they looked so pitiful.
  • Not many houses do,   especially older ones.  It usually is not hot up here, 80's maybe, very rare that we see 90.  But as with our winters,  the summers are changing as well.  Over the years we have seen less snow in the winter and more heat in the summer,
  • It would have been more or less a poodle cut, but with his mane still intact. He is one fluffy kitty.

  • Morning.  I'm exhausted from a rollicking night of cross-stitching and watching Scrubs.  H woke me up with his loud noises in the kitchen.

  • Baney, that is a really pretty pic of your cat, but it is really big.  (the pic, not the cat)
  • JG, I guess that makes sense. I can't remember the last time I was in the mountains, but probably never in the summer time so it never occured to me that A.C. doesn't really exist there.
  • Yes, sorry, I'm resizing it now. I put it up, and was like, whoa...Sorry about that!

  • My FI and I are growing ferns for our wedding (decorations for the church). We have done pretty welll with them, they are pretty green and lush, which we are pretty proud of as this is our first attempt with ferns.  Anyway,  Last night I was watering one of  them and  a freaking BIG ASS snake came of it and slithered across my bare foot...I think I died for a minute.

Does anybody have any ideas what we can use instead of ferns, cause now they are in the woods.
  • I spent my vacation last year on Lake Lure. It was a group of us from MI, so it became a running theme of the week to look outside the window and realize that, hey, there's a mountain out there. It's a really beautiful area.

  • Maybe you could use jade plants or another kind of succulent, instead? It's a different kind of look, but they're really easy to grow.

  • oh my God, laugh really?  I am still scared to go outside.  I think it was a boa.
  • My grandma was leaving her house the other day and there was a snake coming in the door while she was coming out. She ran out of the house and I'm not even sure if she's been back home since that happened. I told her it was probably sleeping in her bed haha

<div>Really? I guess it's possible someone set their pet loose but I was picturing a garden snake. </div>
  • Aryn, you are probably right, but trust me, when it was going across my bare foot, it looked like a boa.

    <div>Thanks funny.</div><div>
</div><div>When we were living in Texas my brothers, who were about 4 at the time, were playing outside and they found a snake.  My mom made them come inside then she locked the door.  Because you know, snakes know how to open unlocked doors.</div>

  • I think I had a super tolerant mother. When I found a snake in the yard she let me keep it as a pet for a few weeks. I also had a pet tarantula for awhile.
  • They are wily animals. Who knows what they can do? Tongue Out
    image
  • See, snakes don't bother me, but no way, no how would I have a tarantula. I hate things with too many legs.

  • I will just stick with my Cleopatra and silk ferns.  On my way to church, have a great day everyone.
  • We had tarantulas in St John,  They didn't bother me.  I just swept them out the door with a broom.

<div>It's not like we saw them all the time.  In 13 years I think I only found 3 in the house.  Not really a big deal.    Everywhere has some sort of critter to deal with.</div>

  • Our house has the highest population of millipedes and silverfish that I've ever seen. They're just icky.
    image
  • Bugs don't bother me, snakes don't bother me. Spiders definitely bother me. A spider crawled across my leg when we were eating at O' Charley's one time and I bawled my eyes out.
  • I could handle wild tarantulas. I see a cockroach though and I go into hysterics. Those things give me the heebie jeebies. And FL has ones that fly! I stayed with my aunt in FL for a month once and one flew at my head. Ugh, I still shudder when I think about it.
