I am not even going to touch the race arguement.... Anyhoo... your Fi is right to be concerned, these boards are littered with posts from people whose parents/ future in laws etc promised to pay for some or all of the wedding and then back out at the last minute. Take the wise advice already given and don't spend money unless you physically have it in your bank. If your parents have offered help now would be the time to discuss how much... If you are already over budget, work out what you can cut or change to bring you back in line, you sould really have a buffer zone worked in for the last minute costs that may arrive. Go over to the budget board for loads of ideas how to keep your costs down without compromising your wedding. You need to get a handle on your spending now, if you can't set and stick to a budget now you are going to cause youself and your FI a lot of misery in the future. Don't spend beyond your means, there may not always be someone there to pick up the tab.

First of all I think it's great that your family wants to help you pay for your wedding. You are very lucky, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that!I'd get your fiance to sit down with you and whoever else is involved in the planning process to talk things through. You have to understand that if he is completely against taking money, you may have to turn down their generous offer. If he won't budge, maybe make compromises such as "Grandma offered to pay for the photography" and "Mom wants to get our cake" and you guys can fill-in-the-blanks.

Wow...amazed at the totally useless, negative energy on this thread...and seemingly encouraged by the moderator...being on the internet is no excuse for being rude to someone, even if they are a complete stranger.This is a public forum, true. I see many posts that I read that for one reason or another I determine are not comment worthy. I read the question/comment, and move on. But to take the time to be actually rude or downright mean? I agree. If you don't really want to be helpful, just say nothing, please. That is my opinion. This super sensitivity is not necessary. How about we try to keep the board a pleasant place to visit? Not there all posts are going to be in agreement, but there is such a thing as having a different opinion without tearing other posters down.But wait! I'll probably get ripped on for having this opinion...:-p

ziti, im not your stalker you're just a worthless person on here that picks on people looking for info to help them. And i deleted all my posts for the same reason rands09 said. IF this is how this chit chat board is ran i just wont use it. rands09- your right, this mod is not doing her job. and no not for giving her honest opinion but letting other people attack people who use this board. You are always welcome to email the messageboards@tk, but keep in mind that they can see your deleted posts and anything you said that was reported by other members.I want to keep the boards fun and useful for everyone, but I can only delete posts that are a clear violation of the terms of use. People disagreeing isn't a violation. If you are feeling bullied or mistreated, you can email the message boards address (it's in my sticky post above), and let them decide the proper action.

I stand by my post. There is nothing wrong with disagreeing. There is an appropriate, constructive way, and then there is a rude, demeaning way. If anyone really believes that some of these"attack" posts masquerading as honest differences of opinion is an appropriate way to respond to someone seeking advice, then you just don't get it, and I won't waste time going back and forth with you. If the board moderator, who clearly has support for allowing this type of behavior, is OK with it, then fine. If this is how you communicate on a board with strangers, then it's a safe bet that you communicate this way in your everyday lives - or you wouldn't find it acceptable. That being the case, in real life I wouldn't want to spend time with you, and that holds true for the web.So, go ahead and continue the way you obviously prefer to. Just don't be surprised when visitors stop by once and never return. And again - in agreement with the earlier poster - don't bother with the nasty replies...I won't be coming back to read them. I prefer a more pleasant environment as I plan my wedding. Ciao!
