Re: Gay marriage.

  • Well, Jesus hates people with tattoos, right? Isn't that in the Bible somewhere? Yep - pretty sure my Catholic education failed me on that point too!!

  • I'm for it. I don't see how letting gays get married is somehow going to undermine the consitution of marriage. It seems us straights are doing a pretty damn good job of that on our own. I also don't understand the idea that gay parents are going to cause their children to be gay. Last time I checked, a vast majority of gay folks were born to straight parents.

  • I have to say, my wariness of all that's Canadian is starting to be slowly but surely chipped away. I don't know how I feel about this. I don't like change.

  • ring, isn't the year of mat leave paid also?I'm not entirely sure how it works so don't quote me on this, but I think that mat leave is paid by employment insurance - so it's only a part of what your regular income would be. But it's paid for up to a year between both parents (so, say the mom could take a whole year off and get paid EI, or she could go back to work early and the dad could take a few weeks off instead). Employers often have maternity top-up as part of their benefits. My employer, for example, would top up so that I would be paid 95% of my normal salary for the first 17 weeks of my mat leave (though my employer has pretty great mat leave benefits). After that, I'd only be getting EI.

  • We get 12 weeks paid leave. Then nada.  As in, no job.  Or, a BIG welcome back lunch in week 13.  If you had a medical reason you couldn't return you could get disability, but that's rare.

  • Where do these people come from?  Really.  How do people not comprehend that this "law" made sense in an era where there was no refrigeration, to prevent people from getting sick.  Esp. in the heat of the desert middle east, where the bible was written.  Oh, and you know, when people didn't know how to prevent the spread of disease that is spread more often during male-male sexual intercourse?  Sometimes I hate humanity.

  • psst, the site is a joke :)"As you may have realized, this site is a parody. It is meant to poke fun at people like Fred Phelps, and at people who protest against gay people and gay marriage."

  • KUI, I didn't read that far.  My eyes glazed well before that.  :)  Sadly, there are people who believe that crap, though.  Really.  And they live only a couple hours from you.  (My ex is from Charleston, MO.  Charleston-Sikeston-Cape is a WEIRD area.)

  • um, I got engaged at Churchill Downs.  Opposite the finish line.  I don't follow everything day-to-day, but overall - yeah.  FYI - I throw a kick ASSS Derby party.  Next year will be one week before my wedding, so I might bow out, but otherwise - open invite Sarah!

  • For it. I could go into a wine-fueled tirade shooting down all the excuses people give for not allowing gay people to marry, but I'll leave it at this--it's all BS

  • pro gay marriage.and i agree with sarahsmile... regardless of my own beliefs, what the hell do i have to gain by preventing same sex marriage?and my own beliefs aren't anti-gay, just that i'm not gay, so honestly, gay marriage is not my main concern in life, but i am DEFINITELY FOR it (i just don't go out and protest).
  • Just a note that WA is voting tonight whether to extend all rights and benefits of marriage to domestic partnerships. So far it's passing. I honestly don't understand why anyone wouldn't want domestic partners to have the same rights as married couples (or why gays shouldn't marry). It's really illogical to me to oppose gay marriage.
  • California had similar wording because it's about repealing a law already in place. Yes, I live in California. Yes, I voted against Prop 8, which means I am very much FOR gay marriage. It's an issue I feel strongly about because I see it as an equal rights issue, just like allowing blacks full citizenship and allowing women to vote. At times I feel guilty for planning my wedding because I know the best man in my own wedding can't legally marry someone he loves (he did marry a friend once so she could get a green card but that's a whole 'nother story!).

  • I've actually heard a little rumour that mat leave is being extended in Canada at some point in the future.I am FOR same-sex marriage. I don't even understand why so many people are so vehemently against it. but then again, I also don't get why it's so damn important that one person is not of the same or "right" religion as another. does my being a "heathen" somehow osmotically affect your chances of getting into heaven?
    kablah.....that is all.
  • I wish I could vote NO a million times for Maine.
