Ok last night I typed and deleted a whole spiel about finding someone you could talk to and learning how the world works a little more--because there is a helluva lot more to the world than marrying some guy. But I got soft and didn't post it. But nowwww, I'm just flabbergasted. And frankly, it pisses me off to NO END that you consider the military YOUR saviour. IF your FI gets in, which, please see FTL's comments on how hard it is right now, it will be HIS job. And it won't be enough money to support both of you.

But for serious, google FAFSA. I'm not trying to be mean, but how did you think loans worked?? The government gives you a large sum of money to better yourself, and presumably society as a whole, with the expectation that you are muture enough to pay it off slowly, all while taking you to the cleaners on interest. Loans are given for a reason--generally need based, and I couldn't have gotten my masters degree without it. But once you take the money, you are legally liable for paying it ALL back and they don't fvck around. So I seriously suggest you start googling and talking to people who have gone to college, taken out loans and paid (or are paying) them back. There is a lot to know, but there are resources out there for you.

And FFS, stop parroting one liners you've heard around the block. It gets old.

[QUOTE]Exactly. You don't KNOW, Kendall. That's the point. You speak before you think. You speak before you research and become knowledgeable about a subject. Therefore you insult people because you used no tact with ignorant comments. I have tried really hard to not say anything and stay out of it when you get flamed by everyone else for something. You're young, you're a suck up, you try to say things that you think will come off as you looking mature which is rarely successful, you argue with everyone about your opinion or insulting remark, and then change it to match everyone else's views. You claim(ed) you talk to your Fi's CoC aaaaalll the time with I either A) doubt. You're probably just trying to come off like a "cool kid" or B) You're probably annoying that crap out of someone with your multiple e-mails a day. You have BITCHED OUT new posters on here (which has probably scared a few away. Thanks) with your "opinions" (ie what you think posters on this board would say) on their weddings/VR/JOP and yet you continually flip-flop between what YOU'RE doing between all three of those! You harassed a girl about wanting a Navy/nautical wedding because her Fi is trying to or is getting into the military, but you talk aaaall the time about how your Fi WILL commission (ie you seem to know full well how tight it is to move up in the military right now or get into the military, and yet you think you are some special case) And I'm pretty sure the only reason you bring up wanting to join the military is to suck up to Stan. Grow. Up. Learn what the work "tact" means, and strive to achieve that. I'm 22, and you make me feel like I'm 50. You're comments actually make me NOT want to be a part of this board.

This. It shouldn't matter who pays for school whether you do in loans or parents do. People go to school to try to provide a better future for themselves and family. It doesn't matter how they pay for it. That's their business

Do you have to submit grades for a loan? Youll need to submit those to a college. Also, why don't you do 2 years at a community college? Then you could get better grades. And honestly, I'm still a little taken aback by you mommy and daddy quote. I worked hard in high school to get into college. If I were you, I wouldn't judge how people pay for it.

A loan is different than a scholarship. You can get a loan but you'll have to pay it back. You don't have to pay back scholarships. What happened at you CC? What do you mean by you now know what to do?

I went to a pretty expensive school because I busted my ass to get a scholarship, I also applied for loans, and my parents covered the rest for me. That doesn't make me special or spoiled because I worked extremely hard to get where I am. I am lucky and grateful that I had the opportunity and I didn't waste it, because my parents raised me right.

I'm surprised that I got it then because my parents both worked, and my dad made an awesome living. That's weird. I didn't qualify for any other aid or grants though at all. One year I qualified for New York's tuition assistance program, but I think it's because of my dad's paycut that year that had him making almost a 1/3 less of his salary. They gave me a whole whopping $500 for the year.. woo!

Yeah I have no idea... My mom makes less than H's parents and she lives in California.. and yet I didn't even qual for a loan, while H got most of his college paid for from the feds/state. (and I graduated high school with over a thousand hours a comm service and a 4.0 so it definitely wasn't because I didn't do enough.. haha)
Who knows.. Maybe some years are stingier than others? meh.

I wonder if it depends on the state and school maybe as well? I don't know. Although, you are younger and a lot of the regulations probably changed.

True! Sometimes it can depend your school's deadlines when you apply for the FAFSA loan. I applied at one time right before the term started (after deadline), and the other at the beginning of the calendar year. I received far more when I applied in the winter. Who knows!! Either way, it sure helped with graduate school!

Yeah it wouldn't surprise me if things have changed in the past few years. I only filed for FAFSA once back in 2007 and since budget cuts have just gotten worse, I'm assuming we won't get any... Although now that I'm married, I may apply for it again come Winter quarter to see if we get anything... hmmm...

Kendall I am not positive but I think you can start the online application and save it to be completed at a later date. At least you can get some of the basic info in and then just put your mom's stuff in after.

But aren't you still technically a dependent of your mom?

Unless you are married and/or have children of your own, or have legally separated ties with your family (I forget the word, but it's a PITA and courts don't allow that often), the FAFSA requires you to put your parents information until you are 26 years old.

    Emancipated?

I had to put my parents & H's info on my fafsa... and You can save it for more than 2 weeks. Mine was still saved from like 4 years ago.

Kendall- I too failed at CC, I was put on Academic Probation (Still am actually), but I joined the Navy, and now rather than run off to a different CC, I decided to go back, and Now I have all A's.. They probably won't give you any/much money until you prove to them that you're worth the investment so to speak..

Then how is she able to not claim you until you are 26? Are you emancipated?

THANK YOu!!!! I was trying to think of the word for an hour >_< oi. lol
That. I doubt Kendall is sims. It's a serious PITA to do so. You have to have like.. run away from an abusive home and be fully financially capable to support yourself and all that jazz.. They don't make it easy to make sure that kids don't run and do it so they can have financial aid.
