All right, show your colors...

Re: All right, show your colors...

  • We had a good lacrosse team and that was about it.

  • So, to all the people who went to a smaller university, do you wish you had attended a larger?

I know for me, that getting away to MSU was like a godsend for me.  The town I grew up in had only 600 people in it, and it was suffocating.  To be where there were 60,000 students, and no one cared what happened last night, or people didn't have all the dirt on our family... *sigh* so relaxing.
  • I was the complete opposite. I grew up in a small town (1000 people) and I went to a small college (2000 people).

I wouldn't trade it for anything. It was perfect for me. It was big enough that no one "kept tabs" on me, but it was small enough where we knew everyone, and the teachers knew you and cared about you, which was important to me. I like the personal feel and it's important for me to make connections.

Not that I think I would have "gotten lost" in a huge school, but I like not being just a number, either.

  • Amoro, I felt exactly like you did. I had the option of going to a small, private Methodist university (and getting in debt up to my eyeballs with student loans) or going to the giant public state university for free. I chose the free option. Although I didn't finish, so it doesn't really matter anyway, I'm really glad I chose the huge public university.

I'm really close, 26 hours. Although school was paid for, I still had to live. So I was a bartender. I worked my ass off and took full course loads every semester. After three and a half years of nonstop work and school, mixed with a huge breakup (me and this dude had been together pretty much my whole college career), a promotion at work (I was managing the bar at 21), I just kind of had a freak out. I was way too skinny and miserable all the time and decided to take a break. And just like most people who take "breaks" I never went back. And now I have little desire to, since I'm making decent money without the degree. Plus, the closer I got to finishing, the more I realized how useless my major was (English) unless I wanted to teach. And I'd rather blow my brains out. Sorry for the novel. I'm my favorite thing to talk about :)

  • I bleed cream and crimson! Even though now most of our teams bite the big one. Little 500 though? Best time on campus ever.
  • OOOHHH, I had a time or two at IU. Bloomington is a fun little college town.

  • I had a great time there. I don't think I would want to live ther 24/7/365 unless I taught at the university or worked there, but for four years it was a blast.
  • Fi and I went to College of Charleston.  We don't have a football team, but our basketball team beat UNC this year.

We don't wear cap & gowns for graduation.  The tradition is men wear a tux with a white jacket and women wear white dresses.  Graduation is also outside, and in 2007 it started raining without enough time to move everything in time.  Here's FI after it had been raining for 3 hours.

    Yours truly

Oh yeah.  Been there.  Though, I somehow managed to stave off my breakdown until after I graduated.  But, it hit before I went to law school so, unsurprisingly, thta didn't happen. haha.

  • I had a good friend at my first job who went to CofC.

I went to a small private univ. with about 1500 students for undergrad.  I liked it.  My classes were small, everyone knew everyone. One of our traditions was TPing the school for homecoming.  The president of the university even supplied the TP, which some people would say took the fun out of it.  Greek life was pretty big.  As you can imagine, there wasn't much else to do out in the sticks at a college the size of most high schools.

I went to a larger school for grad school (Appalachian State), which was fun because I got to tailgate and go to football games.  I was there for the first of the 3 consecutive NCAA Div. I-AA National Championships.  I lived on the main street running through campus (King Street) and got to watch the goal post get paraded through town.  Oh, and Mr. Heels and I got engaged 2 years later, the weekend App beat Michigan.

  • I went to Concordia University in Ann Arbor for 4 years but never graduated(jerks screwed me over.) Our sports teams all suck, but apparently they are getting a football team for the new school year. Going there was the worst 4 years of my life, so I really have no school pride.

Now I go to Eastern Michigan with FI, although I'm not currently taking classes.

I completely wish I had gone to a larger university(I really wish I had gone to Western...). I felt sofficated at Concordia-everyone knew your business and they were so strict. I wish I had been able to party and have fun instead of being sheltered.

Pft.  It does not surprise me that you're a Michigan fan, and yet, never attended there.  It seems that's how most Michigan fans are. lol

I'm a Wildcat, born and bred:

DH didn't go to U of A, but he's supportive at homecoming.
That's A mountain in Tucson. It's tradition for a group of freshman to paint it fresh white every fall semester, and for ASU students to attempt to paint it before the ASU/UA game every year. It also spent some time being red, white, and blue over the last couple years. Every March, it gets painted green. In high school, a group of friends decided to try to paint it red two days before gradutation. It's hilarious to think we thought we could paint the whole thing with 2 gallons of red paint

I'm now a University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane, though I'll likely never step foot on campus.

  • I'm a compound, complex, Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 2006! Whoop and gig 'em Ags! watching the Ags play Purdue right now, as a matter of fact.

an e-pic at our football stadium. I'm actually not making a kissy face, but saying "whoop" to the camera while whooping up. FI's not allowed to whoop up, he didn't go to school there. :)
