Oooh, yes.  If I had that sort of talents, I would create one.

I would start by polling TK Floridians on whether or not they are from the South.

And whether in their part of the state Florida natives were known as "crackers" (That part would just be for my own amusement.)

I just got my pro pics back a few days ago, so here's my cake! I love cupcakes, and H and I always rave about this particular bakery, so we were thrilled to be able to share all the flavors with guests.
Our cake topper was vanilla/vanilla.
Our cupcakes were:
Chocolate Fountain (chocolate cake, frosting, and ganache)
Drumstick (vanilla cake, frosting, and chocolate ganache + nuts)
Hopscotch (vanilla cake and frosting, dipped in butterscotch ganache OMGYUM)
Pucker Up (Lemon cake w/raspberries and lemon frosting)
Cotton Candy (vanilla cake w/cotton candy frosting)

The only bad thing was that our bakery forgot our cake toppers!! They were little cat figurines- one was Manx, and one was Persian (to represent our ethnic backgrounds) and they had a bow tie and veil, respectively. Oh well.

I'm going to come back and find this thread next summer and post photos of our wedding cake and groom's cake. I love all of your cakes! Ours is going to be buttercream with peanut butter. Grooms cake (it's a surprise shh!) is going to be red velvet. I like Rach so I guess I like Arkansas :) ETA: Chrissy, I don't forget Arkansas bc of the Clintons.
I totally forgot the Carolinas.  They are def the South in my book.  Not the 'Deep South' though.  But the south.  Tennesee and Kentucky are in that grouping too.
Posted by crfb87
Parts of the Carolinas are pretty deep south, and some parts are not.

I live in the Raleigh/Durham area, which the middle of is not very Southern (particularly Durham) but drive outside the Triangle and in 30 minutes you can be in the true South.

We have RTP which is a huge sector of biomedical and technology research and then 10 minutes away?  cows.

Its sort of a strange area.  and I love it for that.
• My FI is a true blue North Carolinian which is why I become a crazy person whenever the UNC Tar Heels play basketball. That's actually what I'm doing for his surprise grooms cake, a big basketball with a Carolina blue circle on the top with the Tar Heels logo. Pride in where one is from is pretty normal, Rach. No worries.
• This was ours- I was so happy w how it turned out. We didnt want to pay a fortune for fondant ribbons/etc so we used real ribbon and added some bling and fresh flowers. After finding out from the bakery the photo of the cake I wanted would cost $5k, I had very low expectations for my basic cake, and was thrilled with how it ended up
MyUserName= Yep. Go down about 30-45 minutes and you get cows, cornfields, and rednecks.  Erwin- Denim Capital of hte world. Benson has mule days.  There's no denying there's southern blood in that area.
Posted by Beaniebeach
OHMYGOD Mule Days.  I went to college near Benson.  (And Erwin for that matter. I have fond memories of the Denim Capital of the World sign).

Did you know that Mule Days has an average of one death per year?  good times.

I was down there BEFORE they had the 24 hour Wal-Mart in Dunn.  Back then, the Wal-Mart didn't open until noon on Sundays.  I tore my pantyhose once on a Sunday morning.  I was afraid I was going to be sent straight to hell right then and there because nowhere was open to buy a replacement from.
Interesting MyUserName.  I have always lived on the west coast, the majority of my life has been in the PNW.  So that's just the view of the South from a PNW-erner (this made more sense in my head.  That would be Pacific NorthWesterner) who's never lived in the South.
Posted by crfb87
We've also got cities like Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Durham that are really hip with a thriving arts scene.  And Asheville over in the mountains.

I read once that if you are in the state of North Carolina, you are never more than 20 miles from a brewery.

North Carolina = awesome.
20 MILES to get to a brewery!!?!?!?!? We have 8 breweries in my city of 85,000.  And 2 or 3 more in cities that are no more than 30 minutes away (much smaller cities).
Posted by crfb87
Oh, no.  What i mean is that there is always one WITHIN 20 miles.  No matter where you are in the state, the FARTHEST you can POSSIBLY be from a local brewery is 20 miles.  I could get to at least 5 of them in less than 10 minutes from my office.  Walking.  If I drove: there are 10 within 10 minutes.  10 breweries.
Okay. good. I was worried for you. 20 miles is too far to drive for a good brewery tour.
Posted by crfb87
ha, ha.  Yes it is.  My favorite brewery does tours every weekend and pours as many full pints as can be drunk in the 45 minutes before and after the tour.  If you work REALLY hard, you can get 6 in.  good times.

I know!! Wtf where did the time go? I'm excited, kind of nervous but more just nervous that everything will get done in time!! But I am super excited to spend the days before and during with my WP because I haven't seen them much this year. Currently I'm questioning my sanity because I don't know how I will be able to stand outside with just a fur wrap and a dress! Haha. Speaking of which, I'm off to my 2nd fitting now!

</div><div>I just think it's stupid. And I've heard it a million times. There is a pretty big North Florida South Florida divide at UF and stuff like "you can't be Southern if you're from Tampa" gets thrown around a lot. Well, there are plenty of Southern Belles in Tampa, there are rednecks in Miami, there are guidos in Pensacola. There are all kinds of people everywhere. So it's just an irrational irritation of mine. I grew up in Orlando, which being seem to be so adamant about labeling "not Southern," but my family (my mom's side obviously) is quite Southern. Most of my friends growing up were pretty Southern too. It's something I identify with so I think it's bullshit when people make blanket generalization like "Florida isn't the South" and "no one in Orlando is Southern."</div><div>
</div><div>And I know this is a ridiculous thing to be bothered by, but it still bothers me. It's probably exacerbated by all the South hate I encountered in grad school up here in the big bad North. </div><div>
